Women’s Day
The History of the Holiday
- Women’s Day is one of the most beautiful, romantic, joyful holidays in Russia. It’s a spring holiday. It’s celebrated on 8 March. The history of the holiday began many years ago. On 8 March, 1857 the women of some factories in New York demanded equal rights with men. In August 1910 Clara Zetkin suggested to celebrate the eighth of March as International Women’s Day at the conference in Copenhagen. In 1913 the holiday came to Russia. Since1917 Women’s Day has been celebrated every year in Russia.
Nowadays
Women in Russia like to celebrate this holiday. On this day people give flowers and presents to their mothers, grandmothers, sisters. They tell them about their love and care. They send nice postcards to their women. They thank them for everything they do. Men cook tasty dishes. It’s a romantic, kind, joyful holiday.
