- Hello, my dear friends! There are many holidays in our country and English-speaking countries. But the holidays we like most of all are New Year’s Day and Christmas Day. People prepare for these holidays in advance: they buy presents, make fancy dresses, send greeting cards and decorate their houses.
Our competition is devoted to these great holidays!
We have two teams today. They are going to show us, if they know everything connected with Christmas and New Year. I hope you are ready to start.

Конкурс 1. The first task is a small quiz about Christmas and New Year. (Take the question from the bag)

Конкурс 2.
Now we are going to check, if you know Christmas and New Year songs well. The next task is “Guess the song”. You’ll hear the music, without words, you need to sing or just say one-two lines from this song.

Next competition is about Christmas traditions. I’ll show you the thing and you need to tell about a tradition, connected with this thing. You have 1 minute to think. Make as many sentences, as possible.

Конкурс 4. There is one interesting tradition. Do you know, what people usually write before New Year’s Eve? – New Year resolutions. What is it? Can you explain? Yes, promises… they promise something to their parents, to themselves…
And our next competition is to write as many resolutions, as you can, you have 3 minutes.
Конкурс 5. “What’s in the box?” With the help of description you need to guess, what is put in the box. There are two boxes: green and purple. What colour would you like to choose?
If you guess, what it is, I’ll give it to you.
Purple: It is a stick with colorful stripes and curved end for hanging as a Christmas decoration. But you can also eat it. It is sweet and tasty; usually it has a peppermint flavor.
Green: It is a traditional Christmas dessert. To cook it you need: flour, sugar, butter, eggs, honey, ginger, and cinnamon. They have different shapes, very often – the shape of little people. It can be hard, so people like eating it with milk.

Both teams get the same beginning of the story. You need to continue it.

It was the 31st of December. The weather was fine. The sun was shining in the sky. It was not cold. There were no clouds in the sky.
Everybody was preparing for the New Year's Day. Children were decorating the New Year Tree and the houses. Mother was cooking food for supper. Father was in the shop. He was buying some presents. At that moment Santa Claus came to the house and gave the presents to the members of the family.
Конкурс 7. “The best congratulation”. Imagine that you have to send a Christmas card to your friend. What would you wish him/her? Please, color your Christmas card and write your greetings.
Please congratulate your friends from another team and give them a card.
