These are the words of one of the most famous and outstanding Russian writers and poets in the world.

• I agree with these words because I think that any book is the key for knowledge.
• They help us in self-education and in solving problems of life and I’m sure they are the best way to learn something new.

• In ancient times books were written by hand, and it took a very long time to write a whole book and to make several copies of it.
• The number of books in those days was very little.

Only very rich

people could afford

having them.

• Nowadays thousands of books are published every year. There is no problem where to find a good book for reading.
• It’s not a secret that people have had different opinion about Literature and reading recently.

• In modern society, people have stopped being interested in reading. Reading books is losing its popularity with teenagers.
• As a result, a person's vocabulary decreases, memory and imagination don’t develop.

• Many people prefer e-books to paper books. The main reasons are:

- you can download e-books for free from the Internet;

- e-books are more comfortable to read (you can use computers, smartphones).

• In my opinion, books play a very important role in our life. They give us a unique chance to link up with authors who lived hundreds years ago.

• Thanks to books we can talk to people who lived in different ages and countries.

• Now, while preparing for exams, I have to read the works of the school curriculum.
• I like reading books and science fiction is my favourite kind of literature because it gives a different view of our reality.

• Sometimes I go

to our school library.

• Our school library

is always cozy and

peaceful. I can enjoy

reading there.

• Our librarian

knows about all

my preferences.

• My favorite book is “Coraline“,

a children's British dark fantasy horror novel written in 2002

and published in Russian in 2005.

• I read this book for

the first time at the

age of 13, and I was

completely captivated

and impressed by

this story.

• “ Coraline” was written by the English science fiction writer Neil Gaiman.
• He was born in 1960.
• In 1977, he graduated from high school and began working as a

journalist.

• In 1984, his first

short story was

published.

• The book has received a number of prestigious awards: the Nebula Award and the Hugo Award for Best Novella, the Bram Stoker Award for Young Readers, and the Locus Award for Best Novella for teenagers.

• In conclusion, I’d like to say that modern world is full of exciting things. But it is impossible to live without reading and even if paper books may disappear in the future, people will never stop reading.
