TEXT
TOWNS AWASH AFTER 12 CM SUMMER FLOOD
Twelve centimeters of rain fell in nine hours bringing chaos to southwest England yesterday. Rivers burst their banks, and householders had to be rescued from homes.
An extensive clean-up was under way in Helston, scene of the worst of the flood. Residents in the lower part of the town had to be evacuated from the first-floor windows as waist-high water washed through the streets, damaging dozens of cars and caring away furniture.
In the town`s lowest-lying area, water reached the ceilings of some houses, and firemen had to break windows to prevent buildings from collapsing.
Thousands of pounds worth of goods from the supermarket floated out of the door on to the High Street.
Elsewhere the heat continued to cause problems.
Another wave of thunderstorms from France was moving into the South last night.
Slide 11
Answers:
1. The disaster struck southwest England.
2. It happened because twelve centimeters of rain fell in nine hours.
3. Rivers burst their banks.
Water damaged dozens of cars and carried away furniture.
Thousands of pounds worth of goods from the supermarket floated out of the door on to the High Street.

T: I give you the home task. All of you have the same text. The first group read the first part. The second group read the second part, and the answer the questions.

Group 2
Group 3
T: Now a minute of relaxation. Listen to music by Louis Armstrong “A wonderful world” and relax.
4. Развитие навыков письма.
a) T: How do think what the cause of all these disasters is?
P: I think it may be bad ecology.
T: What is the cause of bad ecology?
P: Pollutions.
T: How do you think a human is guilty?
P: Yes.
T: Yes, we are guilty. We develop our economy, industry and pollute the nature. As a result the climate changes. They are the reasons for catastrophes on the planet. The world changes under the influence of people. We must save our planet as on the first picture but we do as on the second one.
Slide 12
T: The temperature on the Earth is becoming higher. It is the cause of the global warming. This process leads us to a drought and a flood and as the result - famine.
What is the difference between “cause” and “reason”? Watch the video.
(Video 3)
Slide 13
Сause – makes something happen and it shows the RESULT of something:
Global warming is caused by rising levels of carbon dioxide.
Reason – explains WHY something happened or WHY we did something:
The reason for rising levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) is our desire to live beyond our means.
I think that the prepositions “OF” and “FOR” will help you.
The preposition “OF” is usually used after the word “CAUSE” and “FOR” –after the word “REASON”.
Let`s do the exercise number 1, page 97. Now we shall start it and at home you will finish it. Open your copybooks write down the date. Today is Wednesday, the eleventh of February.
Exercise
Complete the sentences with “CAUSE” or “REASON”.
1. Carelessness is often the …. of fires.
2. The … of the accident is still not known.
3. What is the … of lightning?
4. Scientists attribute changes in the weather to natural … .
Slide 14
Answers:

5. Развитие устной речи. Рефлексия. Развитие навыков проектной деятельности.
T: Look at this slide. What is strange or unusual in it?
Slide 15
P: An upper part is a town and a low one is a forest.
T: How do you think what the measure is?
P: A man is between the first and the second parts. He separates these worlds. The world without people is natural. People have changed the world. People have changed natural jungles to stone jungles.
T: If a man didn`t do all these, the world wouldn`t change. It`s time to repeat the using of Conditional 2.
Slide 16
Please, find a mistake in each sentence.
1. If people recycle more paper, logging companies would cut fewer.
2. If factories stopped pouring chemicals into rivers, they will be less polluted.
3. If people didn`t leave rubbish in parks, they would not been dirty.
4. If people stopped using aerosols, it would helped the environment.

T: Now I recommend you to make a project work in a form of pyramid. Let`s call it “Causes of Natural Hazards”. The base of it will be the main cause.
Show your projects. And name the causes of hazards:

IV. Заключение
T: Let`s sum up our lesson. Today we have learnt about Natural Disasters and their causes. Also we have learnt about the difference of using of the words “Cause and Reason”. It`s high time to count your money.
