This exercise is based on a list of words which the learner listens to and ticks off or characterizes as he hears them. Listening material may be words, numbers or very simple sketches. Learners can be asked to divide the items into classes or categories according to the headings of the columns. Learners can prepare these columns themselves. Then they hear from the teacher or from a recording, a list of items and for each item they identify they put a tick in the right column
