Later, a new city was built. It was nicer and more beautiful.
Now London is a business, cultural and political centre of Britain. More than 8 million people live in London. You can see many attractions in the city. Millions of tourists come to London every year to see its beautiful parks, squares, museums, monuments and other places.
The Tower of London is a museum. It was a fortress, a palace, a King’s zoo. Now you can visit it and see the treasures of the Royal Family.

Christmas
British people celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December. It’s the happiest and the most favourite holiday in Great Britain.
Some weeks before Christmas People are busy. They buy presents for their relatives and friends, send greeting cards to them, go shopping and buy food and drinks for Christmas parties. They also decorate Christmas trees with toys, balls and coloured lights.
On Christmas Eve children go to bed early. They put their stockings near their beds or near the fireplace.
At night Father Christmas comes and puts presents into their stockings. He usually brings toys, sweets, chocolates and fruits for children. Sometimes he leaves a piece of coal for naughty (непослушным) children.
In the morning children open their presents. They like to get presents from Father Christmas and their parents. After breakfast British families go to church (церковь) and for a walk. Streets in London and in other cities are nicely decorated. Londoners like going to Trafalgar Square to see a big Christmas tree. This is a present from people of Norway (Норвегия).
In the afternoon people have traditional Christmas dinner. They usually have roast turkey, vegetables and Christmas pudding.
The 26th of December is Boxing Day. People go to see their relatives and friends and give them presents.
So, Christmas is a happy holiday for children and adults (взрослые) all over Britain.
