- Well! I am glad to see you today. Today we are going to continue learning the theme «Surgery», to examine your home-work, learn a new theme «Surgery. Surgical sterilization», to read the text concerning this theme, to do the exercises of this theme, to watch and to discuss the fragment of film «City of Angels».

- Good! Now we are going to speak about your profession. Look at the blackboard. There is the model of your answer.

- Listen to me very attentive. You must answer for my questions:

- And now we are going to examine your home-work. At home you had to do the exercise №1 at the page 9. (2) You had to read and translate the text «Methods of surgical sterilization» at the page 162. (1)

- Well. Now we are going to learn the new theme «Surgery. Surgical sterilization».

- Open your student’s book «Surgery» at the page 10 and find our theme «Methods of surgical sterilization». (2)

- открывают учебное пособие по разделу «Хирургия» на странице 10 и слушают преподавателя. (2)

- отвечают на вопросы преподавателя:

1. The surgical sterilization depends on both asepsis and antisepsis.

2. The asepsis refers to the exclusion of bacteria from operative field.

3. The mechanical means imply ordinary cleanliness by the use of soap, water and scrubbing brush.

4. The area of the patient`s skin is mechanically cleansed about the proposed incision.

5. The heat is used in many ways to destroy bacteria, particularly in the sterilization of dressings, instruments and oilier apparatus.

6. Yes, tincture of iodine is probably used more frequently than any other chemical on the patient`s skin.

1. What does the surgical sterilization depend on?

2. What does the asepsis refer to?

3. What do the mechanical means imply?

4. Where is the area of the patient`s skin mechanically cleansed?

5. What is the heat used for?

6. Tincture of iodine is probably used more frequently than any other chemical on the patient`s skin, isn`t it?

- Very good! Now we are going to do the exercise №3 at the page 10. (2) You must choose the sentences which correspond to the text:

1. Bacteria are prevented from entering the field by four general means.

2. The patient’s skin about the proposed incision is mechanically cleansed.

3. The heat is widely used in many ways to destroy bacteria.

4. Boiling water is less more effective than heated air.

- Please, mix up in 2 groups, and each of them has its own exercise:

1) the word «cleanliness» and «clean» for the first group

2) the word «surgical team» and «surg» for the second group

- I give you 5 minutes for preparing.

- That’s all! Who is the first?

- Excellent! Now we see how you have learnt the words of our theme «Surgery».

- You must make a crossword which contains the words of this theme. (смотри Приложение 2)

6. Просмотр и обсуждение видеофильма

- Now we are going to watch the fragment of the film «City of Angels», the scene of operation. And then we are going to discuss it.

- Open your student’s book «Surgery» at the page 11 and find the exercise № 6. (2) Find the questions which you are going to answer:

1. Who is Maggie?

2. What can you tell about her? Why did she cry after operation?

3. What can you tell about the surgical instruments?

4. What is the matter with her patient? Why did he die?

5. What did the surgical team do to help the patient?

- Now we are going to discuss it.

(выполнение упражнения, направленного на формирование умений понимать на слух иноязычную речь с целью извлечения общей и конкретной информации и лексических навыков говорения, с использованием технических средств обучения)

- Open your copy-books and write down your home-task. At home you must do exercise 4 at the page 11. You have to translate the sentences from Russian into English using the text «Surgical sterilization».
