5. Moscow is the capital of Russia. Why does it attract tourists from all over the world? Give your opinion.

I want to start to speak about Moscow with saying: “Whoever has been to Moscow knows Russia”. There is a lot to see in Russia but first of all foreign tourists in visit the capital of our country Moscow. The name of Moscow was first mentioned in the chronicles in 1147. But archeologists proved that the settlement appeared a bit later. Moscow was founded by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky. By the 15th century Moscow had grown into a wealthy city. In the 16th century, under Ivan the Terrible Moscow became the capital of the State of Muscovy. Now Moscow is located on the banks of the Moscow River. Its total area is about 10 million people. Moscow is the largest city and the capital of Russia. Moscow is the political, economic, commercial and cultural centre. Moscow is the seat of the Government of the Russian Federation. It’s Russian’s largest industrial city. Metallurgy, metal processing and engineering are the largest industrial sectors. And also are textiles, clothing and footwear, chemical and petrochemical industries, electronic instrument and automation equipment, pharmaceuticals industry.

The heart of Moscow is Red Square. Sorry to say I haven’t been to Moscow but I dream of visiting Red Square most of all. The most ancient monument of Red Square is St. Basil’s Cathedral. With its nine beautifully painted cupolas, it is a real masterpiece of ancient Russia architecture. If you come to Moscow for the first time you should by all means visit the Kremlin which is very impressive. The Grand Kremlin Palace was built in the early 1800 s as an imperial residence. On the territory of the Kremlin you can see old cathedral the Bell Tower of Ivan the Great, the State Kremlin Palace, the Tsar cannon and the Tsar Bell, the biggest cannon and the biggest in the world. The tallest Kremlin Tower, the Spasskaya Tower has become the symbol of our country. If you leave the Kremlin by the Trinity Gate you will come to the Alexandrovsky Gardens. The first thing to do in the Alexandrovsky Gardens is to stand by the Tomb of the Unknown soldier still and silent. Not far from the Alexandrovsky Gardens behind the Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge. I will see Christ the Saviour, with its huge beautiful gilded dome. Foreigners are usually surprised by the number of churches and cathedral in and around the city. There are also a lot of beautiful palaces, old mention and monuments in Moscow. There are more than 80 museums in our country. The largest museums are The Pushkin Museums of Fine Arts and The State Tratiakov Gellery.

If I have a chance I will visit Moscow and its sightseeing. I think Moscow is the city of contrasts where ancient churches and modern building stand side by side.
