Jazz is a direction in music that arose at the beginning of the 20th century.
Jazz originated from the chants of black slaves, who were brought to America at the beginning of the XVII century.
Only in music did they find solace.
At first, these were purely African motifs, but after several decades they began to be more improvisational in nature and overgrown with new American melodies. Later on, complaint songs were added - blues and small brass bands. So a new direction arose - jazz.
The characteristic features of jazz were initially improvisation, polyrhythmia based on syncopated rhythms, and a unique set of techniques for performing rhythmic textures - swing.
The name jazz comes from the English word «jazz!» , meaning an encouraging cry from blacks
The first and most important feature of jazz is improvisation . Musicians should be able to improvise both in the orchestra and solo.
The second feature of jazz is polyrhythmia . This combination in a musical work of two or more independent rhythmic patterns. This particular rhythm is called. It is this freedom of rhythms that makes musicians feel light and continuous forward.
The third feature of jazz is beat or regular ripple.
Originating in New Orleans, jazz is rapidly expanding, becoming more and more popular. Amateur groups, consisting mainly of Africans and Creole, begin to perform not only in restaurants, but also tour in other cities.
So, in the north of the country there is another jazz center - Chicago, where night performances by music groups are in special demand. Performed compositions are complicated by arrangements. Among the performers of that period, Louis Armstrong stands out, who moved to Chicago from the city where jazz originated.
Jazz spread first in America and then throughout the world.
He ceased to be black art: very soon white musicians came to jazz.
The names of prominent jazz masters are known to all.
This is Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Benya Goodman, Glen Miller.
These are singers Ella Fitzgerald and Bessie Smith.
Unlike a symphony orchestra, jazz does not have a permanent composition.
Jazz is always an ensemble of soloists. And even if by chance the compositions of the two jazz groups coincide, they still cannot be exactly the same: in one case, for example, the trumpeter will be the best soloist, and in some other kind of other musician.
