SAINT PETERSBURG

One of the first buildings of St.Petersburg was Peter the Great’s Cottage. The cottage was

built at the was of May 1703. The workmen built this cottage in three days.

The foundation stone of the fortress was laid on the 16 th of May (the 27 th of May by new style).in 1703. This is the day of St.Petersburg’s foundation.

The Summer Garden in the oldest park in St.Peterburg. It occupies an area of 11.7

Hectares. The work of laying out the Summer Garden began in 1704.

Palace square is the main square of St.Petersbutg. It is the center of the city.

In the center of Palace Square Alexander Column is rising.

The Hermitage in one of the greatest museums in the world.It is the largest museum in

Russia . There are 2.6 million objects of art and culture belonging to different epochs, countries and nations in the Hermitage

The author of the monument is the great French sculptor Etienne Falconet. He worked at the monument for 12 years.

The future Emperor Paul I was born in the Summer Palace of Elisabeth Petrovna in 1754.

That palace made of wood was erected in 1741-1744 by the architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli.

The Kazan Cathedral was erected between 1801 and 1811 by Russian architect Andrei Voronikhin. It was sanctified in the 15 th of September,1811.
