My interview
about English (foreign languages) in our modern life
Hello! Nice to meet you! Excuse me, could you answer my questions?
Hi! OK, but what happened?
So, I am a future journalist. It’s my first interview!
My name is Kate and I would like to know about your attitude to learning of foreign languages nowadays.
Oh, it’s a very interesting theme…
Well, what’s your name and what’s your main activity?
My name is Anna. I’m a student now and I’m a future doctor!
It’s great! So, is English (or foreign languages) important for young people and for you today?
As I know, the proverb says «The more languages you speak, the more of a person you are». I agree with it.
Can you imagine our modern life without English?
Of course, no! Because it is the most popular, widespread and international. English is also the language of the information age…
Anna, what do you think about reasons? Why do people study foreign languages, in your opinion?
Reasons? To my mind, here are some of them:
-to travel abroad;
-to get a good job;
-to be better educated;
-to have interesting free time;
-to learn geography, history, traditions, social and cultural life in other countries;
-to communicate with different interesting people in foreign countries…etc…
-Anna, have you ever been abroad?
-Yes, I have been to Poland and France. I don’t know Polish and French but I can speak English a little. That’s why I communicated with many people!
- Are you good at English?
- As a matter of fact I would like to know English better! By the way, I dream to work abroad (not only travel), that’s why I try to improve my English every day!
- It’s cool! You are right, Anna! Foreign languages are very useful in the future. If we listen to the talk of young people we’ll hear words like “rap music, body building, body art, user, computer hacker, fan, pop star” and others. So, English has become a part of youth culture all over the world and in Ukraine too. What do you think about it?
- Ok, it’s right! Besides, there are many international words from English in Ukrainian and Russian languages such as “tennis”, “basketball”, “volleyball”, “computer monitor”, “printer”, “businessman”, “office”, “bank”, “hotel”, “manager”, “supermarket” and so on.
- Well, Anna, English is everywhere!))) Do you like listen foreign singers or watch TV programs in English?
- Of course, Kate! I use the Internet and music for learning. Foreign movies also help me!
I’m sure every educated person must know several foreign languages, especially English. I think “Live and learn”.
Thank you very much for this interview! Good luck and my best wishes for you! Bye!
