A)London, the capital of Great Britain, is a very old town. It is two thousand years old. Many years ago London was a small town on the Thames. There were a lot of villages round it and after many years London and three hundred villages grew into a very large city. Some of the names of those villages you can find in the names of the streets in modern London — Kensington, Westminster and others.
There were many wars in those days and people from other countries came to Great Britain and destroyed London, but new houses of stone grew up.
London stands not far from the sea. Many ships from other countries came to the port of London and brought cotton, food and other things. Factories grew in London and other cities. Many shops were opened in the centre of London. In 1863 the first underground railway began to work. It was very short in those days.
Now London is a beautiful city with large squares and parks. London is one of the biggest cities in the world.

B) The Tower of London is a very old building in London. It is nine hundred years old. The Tower of London stands on the Thames. In the early days of the history of England the English kings lived in the Tower. Then it was a prison where many people died, black ravens had much food near the walls of the Tower in those years. The black ravens live in the gardens of the Tower now. The English people like them very much. A man looks after the ravens and gives them meat in the morning and in the evening. Now the Tower of London is a museum and many people from other countries come to see it. They see the dark stone halls with small windows and thick doors. The walls of the Tower are five metres thick. In the museum they can see many old guns. At ten o’clock every evening the guards lock the big doors of the Tower for the night.

The country has a population of over 5 million (2022). Scotland is the second largest country in the United Kingdom. Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital city. Scotland is well-known for its Loch Ness Monster, haggis and traditional festivals.

D)England is a special country. It is generally believed that English people respect their traditions very much. It’s true and one of the well known English traditions is 5 o’clock tea. This tradition was introduced in England by Anna in the year 1840.
The Duchess would become hungry around four o'clock in the afternoon. The evening meal in her household was served fashionably late at eight o'clock, thus leaving a long period of time between lunch and dinner. The Duchess asked that a tray of tea, bread and butter and cake be brought to her room during the late afternoon. This became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her.

In the centre of the city is Buckingham Palace, the London home of the kings and queens of this country. And every day at Buckingham Palace, there's a famous ceremony. We're watching the Changing of the Guard. There are always guardsmen - and policemen too - outside the Palace. Every day a new guard of thirty guardsmen marches to the Palace and takes the place of the old guard. This is one of the most popular sights for tourists in London. The guardsmen wear traditional uniform: a red coat and a black helmet.

Грамматика (grammar)
В английском языке, так же как и в русском числительные делятся на количественные числительные (Cardinal Numerals) и порядковые числительные (Ordinal Numerals).
Количественные числительные(Cardinal Numerals)
Например: one один, two два, three три и т. д.
N.B. Числительные hundred, thousand, million не приобретают окончание s как показатель множественного числа , однако если эти слова выполняют функцию существительных, т. е. перед ними нет числительного (а после них обычно стоит предлог of ), то во множественном числе добавляется s : hundred s of people сотни людей , thousand s of words тысячи слов .
