Middle 30 min | Activities to familiarize the pupil with school from different parts of the world. Listen and point: Pupil’s book closed. Put up the world map. If you haven’t got one, you can download a map of the world from the Internet. Point to the UK and say: This is the UK. Ask the pupils if they have any friends or relatives from this country. What do they think school are like in the country? Have a class discussion, in L1if necessary. Follow the same procedure with Russia and Kazakhstan. Pupil’s book open. Play the CD. The pupils repeat, chorally and/or individually. AUDIOSCRIPT: I’m Alex. I’m ten. This is my school. Ect. DRAW YOUR SCHOOL. Present it to the class. Ask the pupils to draw their own school. Make sure you display their drawing somewhere in the classroom. The pupils can find pictures of the school online or take pictures. Once the pupils have presented their drawings/pictures, help them file their drawings in their Language Portfolios. Tell the pupils that they are going to play a game called Chinese Whispers. Explain the rules. Approach a pupil at the front desk and whisper a word from the module. Ask him /her to whisper the same word to the pupil who b is sitting next to him/her, who then whispers it to the next pupil, ect. Ask the last pupil to call out the word. Repeat the procedure as many times as you think is necessary. Poster. Put up the Odd and Even poster on the wall. Point to and elicit the numbers. Explain, in L1 if necessary, that 2,4, 6, 8, and 10 are even numbers, whereas 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, are odd numbers Write Even on the right side of the board and Odd on the left side of the board. Call a pupil to come to the front. Say a number, e.g. five. The pupil writes it in the right category. Ask the rest of the class for the verification.
