  • Hypnosis as a method of treatment in modern medicine

Hypnosis is a temporary condition characterized by a concentrated focus of attention and a high flexibility to suggestion; the state of hypnosis is caused by the influence of a hypnotherapist or purposeful self-hypnosis.

The use of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes is called "hypnotherapy"

Avicenna (980-1037), a Persian physician, documented the characteristics of the "trance" (hypnotic trance) state as early as 1027. At that time, hypnosis was already being used as a treatment. German physician Franz Mesmer reintroduced it into medical practice in the 18th century.

James Braid, Pierre Janet, Sigmund Freud are world famous medical scientists who studied the therapeutic effects of hypnosis.

At the beginning of the 20th century, famous Russian researchers Vladimir Mikhailovich Bekhterev and Konstantin Ivanovich Platonov made a great contribution to the development of hypnosis.

Nowadays in Russia the Research Institute of Clinical Hypnosis and the Institute of the Human Brain named after N.P. Bekhtereva of Russian Academy of Sciences study the therapeutic effect of hypnosis.

One of the main modern scientists, doctors - hypnotherapists with a worldwide reputation is Tukaev R.D., the creator of several author's methods and directions, in which many doctors work with good results.

* истерический невроз (при лечении истерических параличей, тиков, потерь памяти)

* нарушение сна

* неврастения

* астенические расстройства.

* вредные привычки у детей (кусание ногтей, вырывание волос и т. д.)

* психогенные депрессии

* соматические заболевания.

* зависимости: наркомания, табакокурение, алкоголизм

* при оперативных вмешательствах  как обезболивающее средство

* заболевания кожи, ожоги

Indications for the use of hypnotic therapy:

* hysterical neurosis (in the treatment of hysterical paralysis, tics, memory loss)

* sleep disturbances

* neurasthenia

* asthenic disorders

* bad habits in children (biting nails, pulling out hair, etc.)

* psychogenic depression

* somatic diseases.

* addictions: drug addiction, tobacco smoking, alcoholism

* in surgical interventions as an anesthetic

* skin diseases, burns

- weight loss

A number of studies from the UK's National Institute of Health show that hypnosis can reduce pain during wound care, bone marrow harvesting and childbirth. The International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis reports in 2020 that hypnosis brought pain relief to 75% of 933 subjects participating in 27 different experiments.

Hypnotherapy has been studied for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome. IBS hypnosis has received moderate support from the UK National Institute of Health. It has been used as an alternative to chemical anesthesia. It has also been studied as a way to soothe skin diseases.

Hypnosis is used as a pain reliever during dental surgery as well as to treat pain. It has been found that hypnosis can help even those patients who have acute or severe oral pain. Hypnosis techniques are very effective in relieving anxiety in patients with severe dental phobia.

A 2007 year study of hypnosis as a means of smoking cessation in patients hospitalized with heart and lung disease found that smokers who used hypnosis to quit smoking doubled their chances for success.

There is evidence to support the use of hypnotherapy for the treatment of symptoms associated with menopause, including hot flashes, giving it the highest level of evidence.

Hypnosis can be helpful as an adjunctive therapy for weight loss. A 2006 year research studied the effects of hypnosis in combination with cognitive behavioral therapy. It found that people using both treatments lost more weight than people using cognitive behavioral therapy alone.

Hypnosis is effective in reducing fear of cancer treatments, relieving pain, and overcoming cancer and other chronic conditions. Nausea and other symptoms associated with incurable diseases can also be managed with hypnosis. Some practitioners claim that hypnosis can help strengthen the immune systems of people with cancer.

Thus, hypnosis can provide pain relief, reduce stress, relieve anxiety, improve sleep, improve mood, and reduce the need for painkillers. In addition, hypnosis is often used in combination with physical therapy and medication. Combination therapies are also beneficial during treatment.
