ПРАЗДНИКИ И ТРАДИЦИИ В РОССИИ И АНГЛОГОВОРЯЩИХ СТРАНАХ

(ОБОБЩАЮЩИЙ УРОК В 7 КЛАССЕ)

Цель: Формирование обобщенных знаний по теме «Праздники и традиции в России и англоговорящих странах» и оперирование ими.

Компоненты цели:

1) образовательный: расширение лингвистического кругозора и эрудиции учащихся;

2) развивающий: развитие языковых способностей учащихся, готовность к коммуникации;

3) воспитательный: создание условий для формирования у обучающихся интереса к культуре и традициям страны изучаемого языка, поддержание интереса к культуре своей страны;

4) практический: формирование и развитие практических навыков владения английским языком, обеспечивающих коммуникативные потребности учащихся по теме путем привлечения дополнительного материала, развитие аутентичных навыков.

Ход урока:

1. Организационный этап. Приветствие.

Teacher: Good morning, good morning, good morning to you

This wonderful morning: how are you?

Teacher: There is a holiday, which is celebrated in the USA in February. It’s Presidents Day. Americans celebrate it on the third Monday in February. They honor two of their greatest presidents, George Washington, their first president and Abraham Lincoln, their sixteenth president.

Do Russian people celebrate Presidents Day? Would you like to celebrate it? Why?

What holiday do we celebrate in March?

Pupils: On March 8^th we celebrate Mother’s Day.

Teacher: What do you usually do this day?

Pupils: We buy our Moms nice greeting cards, flowers and presents. Our Dads usually make a big dinner.

Teacher: And what holiday do American people celebrate on March 17^th?

Pupils: They celebrate an Irish religious holiday St. Patrick’s Day.

Teacher: What do you know about this holiday?

Pupils: On St. Patrick’s Day Americans decorate their houses, schools and streets with green shamrocks. They wear something green. They say that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.

Teacher: And what do you know about leprechauns?

Pupils: They are mysterious fellows, who love themselves.

Teacher: This is a leprechaun’s puzzle.

Teacher: You know, that April begins with a day of fun and jokes – April Fool’s Day. No one really knows when this custom began but it has been kept for hundreds of years.

One of the greatest April Fool jokes took place on April 1^st, 1957.

Teacher: On July 4^th, American people celebrate Independence Day. It is called Independence Day, because on July 4^th, 1776, their founding fathers declared that the United States would be free and independent from England.

One of the best holidays for children is, of course, Halloween. What do you know about this holiday?

Pupils: It is celebrated on October 31^st. Children wear masks and costumes of ghosts, witches and skeletons. The children walk door to door in the neighborhood and shout “trick or treat”. Halloween colours are black and orange. Pumpkin is a symbol of this holiday.

Teacher: Yes, In October, pumpkins are everywhere!

People cut the pumpkins and give them scary “faces”. People put pumpkins in windows to stop monsters and witches.

Teacher: On Halloween children go to houses and say “Trick or Treat”. If you say “trick”, the kids play a trick on you. If you say “treat”, you give sweets or chocolate for them. Kids have a trick or treat bag for all the sweets.

Teacher: This day American and British children like to play different games. Let’s play them.

Apple bobbing

Put apples in water. Take an apple from the water with your teeth. The letter on it is the first letter of your future girl / boy friend’s name.

Pin – the – tail – on – the - donkey

One child is blindfolded and spun slowly so that he or she will become dizzy. Then the child must find a paper donkey hanging on the wall and try to pin a tail onto the back.

Teacher: Another favourite children’s holiday is Christmas. In the USA and Britain Christmas is celebrated on December 25^th. People buy a Christmas tree, send greeting cards to their relatives and friends. At night Father Christmas comes. He puts the presents for children in their stockings and under the tree.

What about Russia? Do Russian people celebrate Christmas? When do they celebrate it?

Pupils: Russian people celebrate Christmas too. But we celebrate it on the 7^th of January.
