Reviews

Are short descriptions of TV programs, plays, CDs, books, films, etc. They are normally found in newspapers, magazines, on the Internet or as part of a letter or email. They are written to inform readers and give an opinion about what is being reviewed.

Style

• Depends on where the review is published and who will read it

Reviews include:

• An introduction , in which we give some background details about the type of film and the setting;
• A main body where we give details about the plot, main characters and comment on various features( e.g. the acting)
• A conclusion with a recommendation . Present tenses are normally used. A variety of adjectives can make the review more interesting.

Look through the film review and replace the adjectives. (p 131,ex.4)

Introduction

• Ice is Oleh Malovichko and Andrey Zolotarev’s brilliant film. It will tell about the difficult fate of a talented skater who, since childhood, has followed her dream - to dance on ice to the thunderous applause of the public.

Main body

• The plot is both touching and humorous. The action of the film is set in Russia.The main character Nadia strives to achieve success in sports, dreams of becoming a famous figure skater. But due to a partner’s mistake, Nadia is in the hospital. Believing in yourself again after this is not easy. But a nurse is appointed a former hockey player who can help her again feel the joy of life.

The acting is excellent. The cast of the film is full of young artists, including Aglaya Tarasova, Diana Enakaeva, Milosh Bikovich, and real stars of Russian cinema and series: Ksenia Rappoport, Pavel Maykov, Alexander Petrov, Jan Tsapnik and others .

Conclusion

• All in all, ICE is one of the best films I’ve ever seen in a long while. What impressed me most are costumes, which are really colourful and perfectly show the atmosphere. No wonder ICE was such a box office success.
