So we often don't bother to prepare healthy meals. In order to save time, we tend to buy fast food. At fast food restaurants, we can eat quite a lot without having to pay a fortune. And children enjoy eating chips and burgers and drinking lemonade and cola. So we keep on wanting to eat more. Bad eating habits result in people becoming obese. Healthy Food
All food is made up of nutrients which our bodies use. There are different kinds of nutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, fats» vitamins and minerals. Different foods contain different nutrients.
Before we cut down on fat, sugar and salt, we have to know a bit more about the kind of food these things might be in. The biggest problem comes when these things are hidden in other foods: biscuits, crisps, sausages, meat pies, soft drinks and so on.
The best way is to get into the habit of checking the ingredients and nutritional value on the sides of packets although this isn't always easy to do. Another thing to know is, for example, that we do need fat to live, it's an essential part of our diet and physically we couldn't exist without it.
But we all know that to eat much fat is bad for our health. The matter is that there are different kinds of fat. There are fats that are good for us and fats that are bad for us. Eating less of the bad ones and more of the good ones can actually help us to live longer! Bad fats are the saturated fats, found in animal productions, like red meat, butter and cheese.
Friendly fats are the unprocessed fats found naturally in foods like nuts and seeds, olives, avocados and oily fish, including tuna.
One more thing to know is that when food is cooked, its structure changes. It can change the vitamin and nutrient contents of food.
More and more people feel strongly about the way, their food is produced. Nowadays so much of the basic food we eat — meat, fish, fruit and vegetables — is grown using chemicals and additives.
Although fertilizers and pesticides have greatly increased the quantity of food and helped to improve its appearance, there is a growing concern about the effects of these chemicals in the food chain. This concern has led to a growth in the demand for organically grown products.
Today there is another problem. It is modified food, which is cheaper that ordinary one. There is a rumour that such food can cause cancer and other problems. Nobody knows, either it is just an imagined fear or a real problem. This problem could be solved and examined, but it will take some time.
The food we eat, depends on lots of things. Taste is a big factor. Culture, religion and health also play a part in what food we eat. Advertising and social factors also have a big influence.
Income is also an important factor. That is why not surprisingly, money, rather than a lack of knowledge about how to eat well, is at the heart of the problem.
Finally, there are three main messages to follow for healthy eating:
First, we should eat less fat, particularly saturated fat.
Secondly, we are to cut down on sugar and salt.
Thirdly, we must eat more fresh fruit and vegetables.
Questions:
1. What nutrients do you know?
2. What are the main things to know about food we eat?
3. What fats are good?
4. What fats are dangerous for our health?
5. What are the main factors that determine the food we eat?
6. What are three main messages to follow for healthy eating?

First group.
In order to stay healthy it is important to have a balanced diet – in other words, food that contains something from each of the three main groups of food. These groups are protein, fat, and carbohydrates.
You find protein in lots of food, for example meat, fish, nuts, cheese, and milk. It helps your body to grow and to be healthy and it gives you energy. Fat gives you energy but don’t eat a lot it’s bad for you. There are a lot of fatty foods that come from animals, for example milk, cheese, butter and meat.
Carbohydrates give you more than 70% of you energy. Bread, pasta, cereals, fruits, and vegetables such as potatoes and cabbage all contain lots of carbohydrates.
Fruits, vegetables, beans, and nuts, brown bread all have fiber. It doesn’t give you energy but it fills your stomach when you are hungry.
There are many different vitamins and minerals. They help our body be healthy. You can get all your vitamins and minerals from fresh fruit and vegetables.
For example: Eat regular
Don’t skip breakfast
Eat whole meal bread instead of white
Eat high fiber food
Eat low fat food
Eat more fruit and vegetables and less sweet
Second group.
Many people do not have time to eat home-cooked food. Because of our modern lifestyle, fast food is popular almost everywhere. In most cities, it’s not difficult to find hamburgers, pizza or fried chicken.
Eating fast food helps working people and students to get back to work as a quickly as possible. In addition, many love the look, smell and taste of it. Perhaps the greatest advantage is the price. It is cheaper than other kinds of restaurant food.
Nowadays people are speaking much about advantages and disadvantages of fast food. It is said that fast food is bad. But there is another point of view on the problem; others think that fast food is not bad. Who is right? As for me, I think that fast food is very convenient. Now I will try to explain my point of view.
First of all, if you are hungry and busy, it is better to eat fast food than nothing. Secondly, to eat fast food is quicker. It goes without saying, that to have more free time is very important for businessmen. Finally, it is cheaper to eat fast food, which is very important for teens who usually do not have much pocket money.
As I said before there is another point of view on the problem. There are people who think fast food is not a good solution for people with busy lives, because it is harmful. The most common argument against this is that there is some healthy food in fast food cafe, for example, various salads. Of course, fast food is a perfect solution for dinner, but when you`re home you need to eat only healthy and full of natural food.
In conclusion, I can say that I am for fast food for busy people because it is more comfortable for them. To my mind, everybody should make their own choices whether to eat junk or healthy food
