 Using fairytales to comprehend sequences of tenses

                                                                  In this project students write and film their own fairytales

To write a scenario of the fairytale and film it

Fairytale books(as an example), computer with access to the Internet, video camera or tape recorder

Teacher preparation

To prepare English variants of fairytales that they have already known in their native language. To give them filmed version of the fairytale in order to show how to make such a video as a final product.

Student preparation

Students study introductory materials about different types of fairytales, they discuss their favourite fairytales that they know(characters, plot, moral and give details.) They search for websites at home or at school, bring pictures, materials or something related to their future end product.

Procedure

1.Defining and giving explanation of the essential question

2.Students find information about the ways of writing  fairytales and using sequences of tenses in them, share with the rest of the class.

3.They discuss the title ,the plot, characters, location, decorations of the future fairytale. They take information from different resources (books, Internet).

4.When they decide what to do, they start to write own scenario of the fairytale. After finishing writing it, they distribute the roles(who is responsible for shooting, location, decoration, suits, scoring, sound)

5.They start to film a fairytale based on scenario. After finishing they show the ready product to the teacher and teacher gives feedback.

Variation

During filming the fairytale students use only paper to make characters and decorations .Than they can divide the roles among each other and act it out at school.

Comments

Students will be motivated to learn reported speech because it is interesting for them to study it through fairytales.
