Volgodonsk is one of the young cities in the South of Russia.From the point of view of tourism, Volgodonsk is the most promising city. There are many monuments to the great Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov in Russia. Mostly, they are associated with cities and places where the poet visited. Most of the monuments are located in Pyatigorsk, Kislovodsk, Stavropol,Budennovsk, Gelendzhik. Of course, in both Russian capitals and even abroad.

The monument to M. Y. Lermontov is a cultural heritage object and residents of Volgodonsk highly appreciate the poet's work and honor his memory. In 1980, a monument to the poet was erected at the intersection of Lenin street and Lermontov lane. The bronze bust was cast by Vasily Polyakov, the author of many monuments in Volgodonsk. The sculptor depicted the poet in a military frock coat with epaulettes. Everything in the external appearance, the turn of the head, the intense gaze speaks of the depth and versatility of the inner world of the genius poet.

Flowers are planted around the monument, and places for recreation are equipped. Young people and schoolchildren gather here, and the literary Association arranges readings.
