  1. Re-create a formula to be used for Past Simple

  2. Make at least 2 sentences using Past Simple

  3. Change sentences from Present tense to Past tense in their speech

Materials: projector, speaker, blank sheets of paper, smiley faces

(5 mins ) Motivation – Fly Swatter

The teacher will write 27 verbs on the board. She will call two students to the board and give them fly swatters. She will call out a word in Russian and the students must swat the correct English translation.

Go/went, speak/spoke, buy/bought, write/wrote

( 10 mins) Information-

The teacher will ask students how do we form the Past Simple?

Subject + verb ( in past tense)+object

After that the teacher will then ask students to write two sentences using this grammar. She will ask from 3 students. She will write these sentences on the board.

(8 mins) Application- Tic Tac Toe

The teacher will draw a tic tac toe game on the board.In each square she will write one of the following 27 verbs in past tense: went/came/ate/read/sang/danced swam/was/were/had/played/wore/bought/drank/spoke/wrote/saw/watched/rode/drew/got/took/fought/made

The teacher will then divide the class into two teams. Two volunteers from each team will be called forward to play rock paper scissors. Whomever wins will get to choose whether their team is “x” or “o” and that team will choose a space first. The teacher will then choose a student from that team to give the verbs past tense form. If the student is correct, then the teacher will mark their symbol in the box. The first team to get 3 spaces in a row will win. Students will play the game two times.







(8 mins ) Practice- Charades game

The teacher will ask for one volunteer to come to the front. She will show the volunteer one of the words below. The student must act out the word without using and noise or words. The teacher will instruct the class to guess what the student is doing. The first student to guess correctly will come to the board and the teacher will show them a new word. The game will repeat for 5 or 6 rounds.

( 5 mins ) Hot Potato

The teacher will set a timer to 20 seconds and say a verb in present tense and toss a ball to a student. That student must tell her the past simple version of that verb and toss it back to her.The teacher will say a different verb and toss the ball to another student. This will continue until the timer goes off.

(9 mins ) Application - Cabbage game

Teacher will write sentences in the present tense on separate sheets of paper. The papers will be crumpled together to form a ball. Students will pass the cabbage around to each other. Each time, they will take one leaf ( piece of paper) off the cabbage and read the sentence. Students must reformulate the sentence using the past tense. For example, the cabbage leaf says, “ I go to the park”. Students will say, “ I went to the park”. The following sentences will be written on the cabbage leaves:

Ademi eats ice cream. Jaznur goes to English class. Ilgiza listens to music.

Zafar plays piano. Muslima writes in her copy book. Dinislam reads a book.

Diana drinks tea.
