Lesson: PASTIMES.


Level: pre-intermediate

Number of students: 12-15

Time: 45 min.

Aims:

- to learn new vocabulary units and use them in oral and written speech;

- to participate in different kinds of activities;

- to develop logical thinking; skills of cooperative learning;

- to improve speaking, reading and writing skills.


Materials needed: hand-outs; the texts and tasks to them


  1. INTRODUCTION


Warm-up.


Answer the following questions and say what this lesson is about.

- How do you spend your free time?

- Do you go in for sport?

- Do you have any hobby?

- How much time do you spend on sport or hobby?

- Can you distinguish any features of sport from hobby?


II. MAIN PART OF THE LESSON

  1. SPEAKING

Look at these different activities and say which of these activities are sport

and which are hobbies? Which would you like to do? Why?

  1. READING and VOCABULARY

Match the activities listed below with the comments.

1) “My grandmother taught me how to do it. It`s great

because you can make your own pullovers and socks”. (knitting)

2) “It`s a great feeling, rushing down a cold mountainside. Of course, you have to be careful or you might break a leg.” (skiing)

3) “You can make all sorts of things - vases, plates, pots - and all with a lump of clay.” (pottery)

I like adventure a lot and I am in excellent physical condition. I work well with others, but sometimes I tend to be impatient.
