Тема: English-speaking countries: What are they famous for?
Урок: Unit 8. Lesson 5
Время: 45 минут

Цели урока:

1. Образовательная (познавательная):

• Познакомить учащихся с англоговорящими странами (Канада, Великобритания, Индия, США, Австралия, Новая Зеландия, ЮАР) и их особенностями;

• Активизировать лексику по теме «Countries and what they are famous for»;

• Отработать конструкцию to be famous for + noun/gerund в устной речи;

• Проверить понимание текста о Южной Африке через систему вопросов;

• Развивать навыки аудирования с извлечением конкретной информации (числительные, факты о странах).

2. Развивающая:

• Развивать умения изучающего и поискового чтения, аудирования с заполнением таблицы;

• Совершенствовать навыки диалогической речи (расспрос о странах) и монологической речи (мини-презентация по плану);

• Развивать языковую догадку, память, внимание, умение работать с информацией в таблице;

• Формировать умения работать в паре, распределять роли, слушать партнёра и аргументированно отвечать.

3. Воспитательная:

• Воспитывать интерес к изучению английского языка как средства международного общения;

• Формировать уважительное и толерантное отношение к культуре, традициям и природе других стран;

• Способствовать осознанию ценности многообразия мира и важности сохранения природы (на примере животных ЮАР);

• Создавать ситуацию успеха для каждого ученика через посильные задания и позитивную обратную связь.

ХОД УРОКА

I. Организационный момент (1-2 мин)

Greeting:
Teacher: Good afternoon, children! I'm glad to see you. How are you today?

II. Речевая зарядка

• Актуализация знаний Учитель задает вопросы классу, чтобы переключить внимание на тему стран:

  • Teacher: "What is your mother tongue?" (Russian/Belarusian)

  • Teacher: "What is Belarus famous for?" (Use Ex. 4 from Image 1).

  • Expected answers: Potatoes, flax, hockey players, beautiful nature, storks.

• Постановка цели: "Today we will travel around the world and learn about English-speaking countries and what they are famous for."

III. Проверка домашнего задания (12 мин)

а) Чтение текста о Южной Африке (стр. 77, упр. 2) – 4 мин

Teacher: "At home you read about the Republic of South Africa. Now let's read it together."

Чтение текста.

Текст: "The Republic of South Africa lies in the south of the continent of Africa. Its neighbours in the north are Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, and Mozambique — in the east. Inside South Africa there are two landlocked countries: Swaziland and Lesotho.

In South Africa two oceans meet: the cold Atlantic Ocean and the warm Indian Ocean. There are high mountains in South Africa. In the mountains you can see some snow in winter and it is popular to go skiing! Beautiful grasslands cover most of the country.

There is a desert in the North — the Kalahari. The longest rivers are the Orange River and the Limpopo.

In Kruger National Park, you can go on a safari and see a lot of wild animals: lions, elephants, giraffes and monkeys. Many local animals are in danger because of hunting: the black rhino, the cheetah and the African wild dog. South Africa is home to African penguins. Great white sharks live in the ocean waters here too. In South Africa you must drive on the left."

Teacher: "Let's listen about English speakers in the world."

"There are more than 1.2 billion English speakers in the world today. More than 350 million of them are native English speakers. For these people English is their mother tongue. 850 million of them speak it as a second language. Here are the most famous English speaking countries. There are over 28 million people who speak English in Canada. English is the first language learned at home and in school by most Canadians. Canada is famous for ice-hockey.

The United Kingdom is the birthplace of the English language. It has over 59 million speakers of English. The UK is famous for the English language. In India there are over 128 million English speakers . India is famous for music films . In the USA over 298 million people speak English . Most of them use it as a first language . People from all over the world come to live in America every year, but most of them speak English . And, of course, there are millions of native speakers of English in Australia, New Zealand and the South-African Republic .."
