Christian Dior

Christian Dior (1905–1957), the most influential fashion designer of the late 1940s and 1950s, dominated the fashion world after World War II.

First attempt: in 1928, Christian opened an art gallery, but because of the crisis, it closed.

Second attempt: Dior made drawings for fashion magazines and became famous. He begins to work as a fashion designer, but he is being drafted into the army.

Third attempt: again Dior starts from the very beginning: magazines, work as a fashion designer. And only in 42 years succeeds.

In 1942, Christian creates his own perfume laboratory, which later grew into the firm "Christian Dior Parfum".

Dior returned postwar Paris to its place on the world fashion map. In the 50s, the house of Christian Dior was the largest and most profitable house of high fashion in Paris. To date, Christian Dior has settled in Europe, USA, Japan and Asia.

Dior died in Italy, October 24, 1957. In his family home, in the hometown of Granville, there is now the Christian Dior Museum.

Christian Dior is recognized as the unwritten king of post-war fashion. His sensual silhouette "New look" immediately became a legend. Dior was also the first to come up with a new way of doing business in the fashion industry in the post-war years. It was he who combined the production of various types of products under one brand, thereby creating the first “fashion empire” in its entire history.

After the death of Dior, the fashion house was headed by 21-year-old Yves Saint Laurent. When the fashion house passed into the possession of the world's largest manufacturer of luxury goods LVMH, a young British rebel John Galliano was appointed the chief designer of Christian Dior House. Since then, the Christian Dior brand has become one of the leading and most famous in the world.
