• Hallowen is celebrated on the 31 st of October before All Saints’ Day.
• At that night all evil spirits go out and try to come in people’s homes.
• People have to protect their homes in any way.

There are a lot of interesting traditions on that day:

1. Jack-o‘-lantern

An Irish legend says that jack-o'-lanterns are named after the man called Jack. He could not enter heaven because he was a miser. And he could not enter hell because he had played jokes

on devil. As a result, Jack

has to walk between the

earth and the heavens

with his lantern until

Judgment Day.

How to make Jack-o̓-lantern

1. Take an orange

pumpkin and wash it

2. Scrape out the

pumpkin flesh

3. Make a face on it

4. Put a candle inside

Trick or treat

The main Halloween activity for

children is trick-or-treating. Children

dress up in costumes and masks and go

from door to door

saying "trick or treat".

People give

children such treats

as candies, fruit and

pennies so that

children do not play

tricks on them.

3. Costumes of ghosts and witches

People dress up as witches, ghosts, devils, black cats and bats to frighten the devil spirits and save themselves and their homes.

of Halloween.

For example, a coin, a ring

were baked into a cake.

The one who found the ring

would marry soon.

And the person who found the coin would become wealthy.
