Definition
The generator is the General name of a group of devices, devices and machines intended for the production of a substance, the production of electrical energy, the creation of sound, electromagnetic, light or other waves.
Types of generators
- Synchronous.
- Asynchronous.
Synchronous generator
Synchronous generator is a synchronous machine operating in the generator mode in which the rotation frequency of the stator magnetic field is equal to the rotation frequency of the rotor. The rotor with magnetic poles creates a rotating magnetic field that crosses the stator winding, is converted into EMF.
Advantages and disadvantages of synchronous generators.
The advantage of such generators is the high stability of the output voltage, and the disadvantage is the possibility of over - current, since under excessive load, the regulator can excessively increase the current in the rotor winding. Another disadvantage of the synchronous generator is the presence of a brush unit, which sooner or later will have to be serviced.
Asynchronous generator
Asynchronous generator-asynchronous electric machine operating in braking mode, the rotor of which rotates ahead of time, but in the same direction as the magnetic field of the stator.
Advantages and disadvantages of asynchronous generators.
Despite the ease of maintenance, low sensitivity to short circuit and low cost, asynchronous generators are used quite rarely, as there are a number of disadvantages: high cost, depending on the active-inductive nature of the load; unreliability in extreme loads; dependence of the output voltage and current frequency on the stability of the engine, etc.
Generators used for adjustment of radio engineering.
Measuring generators
These are sources of stable signals of a certain form. They allow you to accurately set the parameters of the output signals and adjust them within a wide range.
Pulse generator
Pulse generators are used in many electronic devices (electronic meters, time relays), used in the configuration of digital technology. The frequency range of such generators can be from a few Hertz to many megahertz. Here are simple generator schemes, including elements of digital "logic", which are widely used in more complex schemes as frequency nodes, switches, sources of model signals and sounds.
