The most popular genres of music

Music is an integral part of most people's lives. Musical works are listened to in all countries, all over the world. Despite the huge popularity and importance of music, many people do not think about what styles and genres exist. In this presentation, we will consider the TOP 5 most popular music trends of our days .

1. Pop music

It attracts with its simple instrumental part, pronounced rhythm and emphasis on the words and beauty of the performer's voice. Among the modern trends in pop music, the following are distinguished:

• disco;
• latin;
• europop,
• synthpop.

In pop music, almost all songs are based on the same principle — several verses, harmoniously replaced by choruses. The main instrument is not the guitar or piano, but the human voice.

Music experts highlight such features of pop music: 1. simplicity and ease of perception of melodies; 2. on average, the length of songs is from 3 to 5 minutes, which fully corresponds to the format of modern radio stations; 3. the lyrics are usually dedicated to personal emotions and experiences (love, sadness, joy, etc.);

2. Rock-music

This is one of the most significant trends in musical culture. Rock music includes several directions — starting from "light" rock and roll compositions and ending with "heavy" and even to some extent aggressive metal. The composition of a classic rock band, as a rule, includes a vocalist, guitarists for electric and bass guitars, a drummer and a keyboardist.

The surge in popularity of rock was in the days of the legendary Beatles and the Rolling Stones, which are still out of fashion .

3. Hip-hop

This direction of music consists of several genres: starting from "light" styles (pop-rap), ending with aggressive (hardcore, horror). The lyrics can also have different content – from light and relaxed (memories of childhood, youth, etc.) to complex social problems.

Hip-hop is based on such styles as funk, jazz, reggae, soul and rhythm and blues. Quite often hip-hop is confused with RAP, which is fundamentally wrong. RAP is a recitative performance of musical compositions, while hip-hop may not have a recitative at all. In the USSR, this style of music appeared in the 1980s.

4. Rap-music .

Rap is the performance of a verbal recitative to rhythmic music. The rapper reads the text under the beat, which can also be accompanied by electronic music. The subject matter of the texts is absolutely any, as well as the main message. There are several types of rhyming. The most difficult are the so-called "square rhymes" (that is, double). A stream of double rhymes with a powerful emotional message is called a "punchline". It is often used during battles - verbal contests between two rappers.

5. R&B

R&B (rhythm and blues) refers to the song and dance genre of music. This style is based on blues and jazz trends of the first half of the twentieth century. A distinctive feature of the genre are dance motifs that encourage listeners to dance uncontrollably. "R&B", which do not carry special philosophical or thought themes. Many music experts associate rhythm and blues with black people, since it is based on all "black" genres, with the exception of classical and religious motifs.
