History of family
The Hanoverian dynasty, originally from Germany, was famous for promiscuity, treachery and wastefulness, and George III survived from his mind altogether. His 13 children were poor heirs with a total of 48 illegitimate children. Thus, the royal family was on the verge of extinction.
Three princes William, Edward of Kent and Adolf immediately married to acquire legal heirs. The wife of Edward of Kent was Victoria of Saxe-Coburg, who gave birth to a daughter in 1819 in London so that the child was of English descent and no one reproached her with German roots.
The girl was called Alexandrina Victoria and in childhood was called Drina. The heirs of the Edward brothers died and it soon became clear that Drina would have to inherit the royal throne. However, her father passed away when the baby was not yet a year old, and her mother was left with huge debts, so she could not provide her daughter with a childhood worthy of the queen.
Victoria's childhood was unsweetened, there was no question of luxury. She ate sparsely, and received a new outfit only when the old one wore out to holes, and, of course, no toys. Although this economy had a positive effect on the formation of the views of the future queen and in the future she despised motoring.
As a result, Victoria spoke 5 languages freely, knew mathematics perfectly, played musical instruments, rode on horseback and painted well. The princess had a warm attitude only with the governess, although the latter was not distinguished by softness and kindness. But she taught the girl to be fair, honest and disciplined. Only at the age of 12 did Victoria find out that she was destined to become queen, to which she replied: "I will be good."
interesting facts
The Victorian era was the period of industrial, cultural, political, scientific and military development of Great Britain and the time of the greatest heyday of the British Empire.
It was after the wedding of Victoria that a tradition appeared when all brides wear a white dress.
The happiest day according to Victoria is the day of marriage to "her angel" Prince Albert. By the way, since she was queen, it was the queen who proposed to Albert, and not vice versa.
Victoria had 9 children and 34 grandchildren. However, the queen did not like young children and was delusional about babies. The queen experienced the shortcomings of longevity - she survived her three children.
