Childhood

• Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov was born on November 19th, 1711, in province of Arkhangelsk. He was born in a family of a prosperous peasant and fisherman. Lomonosov’s mother was a deacon’s daughter. The boy was keen on studying and getting knowledge.

He spent spare time reading books.

Youth

• He wanted to study and when he was 19 he travelled on foot to Moscow. In Moscow he entered the Slavic- Greek-Latin Academy. After his graduation from Academy he was sent abroad to complete his knowledge in chemistry and mining. After he had returned from abroad, he became the first Russian professor of chemistry in 1745.

Progress

• He was a famous Russian scientist, who made a great contribution to national literature. He was also the founder of the Russian literary language and a talented poet. Lomonosov discovered the atmosphere on Venus and built a telescope.

Great heritage

• Mikhail Lomonosov died in 1765. But he is still known as the father of Russian science, an outstanding poet, the founder of Russian literature.
