THE PRINCIPAL OF FRIENDSHIP 

"Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” Amos 3:3 (KJV)

• Friends are of like mind. Friendship is a relationship that is entered into by individuals, and it is only as good or as close as those individuals choose to make it.
• A friend is one whom you can be yourself with and never fear that he or she will judge you.
• A friend is someone that you can confide in with complete trust.
• A friend is someone you respect and that respects you.

CHARACTERISTICS OF FRIENDSHIP

Certain characteristics are involved in many types of friendship, including:

• Humour
• Sympathy
• Loyalty
• Empathy
• Kindness

• Mutual understanding
• Compassion
• Trust
• Enjoyment of each other's company
• Honesty

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE FRIENDSHIPS

MALE FRIENDSHIP

• often rooted in “shoulder-to-shoulder” interactions
• tend to be more “instrumental” and less emotional
• are often based on shared activities
• are more “transactional” — reciprocating favors and working together on projects

• Men tend to insult each other, tell jokes, and mess around a lot more and they are just physically and verbally more aggressive

FEMALE FRIENDSHIP

• are more face-to-face
• are definitely more intimate
• have non-aggressive physical contact like sitting close to each other or hugging
• are assumed to be closer because they share their deepest feelings to one another
• communicate one-on-one

• Women with strong female friendships live longer than those without them(+ 8 to 10 years)
• When women are with other women friends, their bodies emit the "feel good" hormone oxytocin, helping them reduce everyday stress.

CONCLUSION

It is important to bear in mind, however, that men’s and women’s friendships have many more similarities than differences, and there is a wide range of different sorts of friendships for both men and women.
