Description of the city:

London is the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It was founded by the Romans in about 43. One of its previous names is Londinium. London is divided into the City (financial and historical centre) and 32 districts.

Description of the city:

The river Thames flows across London. It is a navigable river, which flows into the North Sea. London area is about 1580 square meters. It is an interesting fact that the city is located on the prime meridian, which is often called Greenwich.

London is one of the world's leading financial centres.

In 2012, London became the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games three times.

Big Ben clock tower

Big Ben- the 150 – year- old clock tower- is one of London's most popular tourist attractions. In fact, the name "big Ben" refers not to the clock tower, but to the bell located inside it and weighing 13 tons. It got its name from the name of the first customer – sir Benjamin Hall.

Skyscraper " The Shard»

In 2012, Renzo Piano, an Italian architect, transformed the architectural appearance of London with an unusual and surprisingly beautiful structure that became the capital's tallest tower. The height of the skyscraper from the ground is 244 m. "Shard" ("Shard") includes everything you can think of : office space, apartments, hotels, bars, restaurants and, of course, a viewing platform that you can not pass by.

Palace of Westminster

The Palace of Westminster, better known as the house of Parliament, is the seat of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The modern building, a magnificent example of Victorian neo-Gothic architecture , was largely rebuilt after a fire in the 19th century.

Hyde park

Every tourist planning what to visit in London is sure to try to visit Hyde Park, which covers an area of 350 acres (141.64 ha). This is one of the largest open spaces in the British capital. The Park has been open to visitors since 1635. serpentine is one of the most interesting corners of the Park – an artificial lake created in the XVIII century and has become popular among fans of swimming and boating.

Royal botanic garden

Kew gardens , whose official name is the Royal Botanic gardens, are located in South-West London on the South Bank of the Thames. This wonderful place, covering an area of 300 acres (121.4 ha), is ideal for having a good time and enjoying the beauty of the plants. The gardens were laid out in 1759. In 1841, they became the property of the state.In 1897, Queen Victoria added Queen Anne's Cottage and the nearby woodland to the gardens.

Camden creative district

Camden is a famous creative district in North London. It is famous for its alternative culture , crowds of Goths, punks, rockabilly fans and similar tourists. Camden is a vibrant community of cutting-edge young people who are passionate about body modification. In this part of the city you will find many piercing and tattoo salons . Camden market has a vibrant and diverse life. International dishes are served on the street.

Street Baker street

One of the most famous cultural sites in London is Baker street. The street is well known as the place where Sherlock Holmes – the notorious detective invented by Arthur Conan Doyle- lived. Now you will find the Sherlock Holmes Museum next to the metro station. The establishment became especially popular after a new film adaptation of the novel, filmed on bbs called "Sherlock".

Kensington palace

Now Kensington Palace, which had at one time the status of the residence of Princess Diana (and earlier- the young Queen Victoria), is one of the residences of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge: William and Kate. The lush gardens and state rooms of the king and Queen are open to the public throughout the calendar year.
