All the banknotes in the UK have a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the front and a famous historical person on the back.

ELIZABETH FRY (1780-1845 ) is an English social activist, reformer of the prison system of England, known as the "angel of prisons". Numerous charitable societies in the UK and other Common wealth countries were named after her.

Charles Darwin   was a great British naturalist of the 19th Century who discovered the process of evolution by natural selection.

Sir Edward William Elgar     (1857 – 1934) was an English composer, many of whose works have entered the British and international classical concert repertoire.

Adam Smith was a great scientist who made extraordinary contributions in economics. He is often regarded as the founder of political economy too.

Sir John Houblon   ( 1632 – 1712) was the first  Governor  of the  Bank of England  from 1694 to 1697.
