On June 12, our country celebrates an important state holiday - the Day of Russia. This is one of the" youngest " public holidays in the country.
On June 12, 1990, the first Congress of People's Deputies of the RSFSR adopted the declaration on the state sovereignty of Russia, which proclaimed the primacy of the Russian Constitution and its laws.
Exactly one year later, on June 12, 1991, the first democratic presidential elections were held in Russia, in which Boris Yeltsin was elected head of the country by a majority vote. The people's elections, held for the first time in an illegal format, can be considered a global historical event and an important step towards building a changed democratic state.
In 1994, Boris Yeltsin signed a decree establishing a new state holiday - the Day of the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Russia. At the same time, this important day for all Russians became a non-working day and citizens received an additional summer day off.
June 12 became known as the " Independence Day of Russia"
Since 2002, the holiday has been given a different name - the day of Russia.
On this day, many solemn and festive events are held throughout the country, in which residents of our country of all ages take part. In the Kremlin, the President of Russia presents state awards, and the main celebrations, of course, are held in Moscow on Red Square and end with a grand salute in honor of Russia Day.
