Robert Burns was born in a clay – build cottage near the River Doon in Alloway, Ayrshire. Later, he remembered and used in his works the songs and stories he had heard in his little cottage home.

Robert Burns travelled much throughout Scotland collecting folk – tales and ballads. His work was inspired by pure patriotism and love for his people .

Robert Burns wrote many poems in English, but his best verses were written in the dialect of his own country, Ayrshire. In this Scottish dialect he wrote all kinds of poems  .
