The Map of Scotland

• The full name of the country is Scotland.
• Scotland is the north part of Great Britain. Five million people live in Scotland. Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland

The climate in Scotland

• The climate in Scotland is cool and rainy. The weather is very changeable. Gardens grow well here. Many people in Scotland are so interested in gardening that they form clubs and travel together to visit famous ones.

The Scottish flag

• The Scottish flag is a white cross on a blue background. The cross is the cross of Saint Andrew. Saint Andrew was a disciple of Jesus.

The symbol of Scotland is the Thistle

The national emblem of Scotland is the Thistle,purple color with spiky green leaves.

• Residents of Scotland are the true patriots, the sail acts as a symbol of protection from enemies and bad weather.

Glasgow and Aberdeen

• There are many large cities here: but I would like to tell you about - Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Glasgow

• Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and the third largest in the United Kingdom. Before 1750 (seventeen fifty) Glasgow was a small town. It had a cathedral and a university but it was not a rich town.

Famous shipbuilding centre

• Glasgow is the most well known shipbuilding centre in Scotland and Aberdeen is the biggest oil centre in Great Britain.

Scotland is famous for…

• Haggis- a food made from the organs of sheep and oatmeal.
• Kilts - traditional Scottish woolen cloth costume with a tartan or plaid pattern. This is a skirt that men wear.
• Bagpipers - people who play the bagpipes, a traditional Scottish instrument .

Loch Ness

• Among the green hills are very beautiful lakes. They are called Loki. The most famous one is Loch Ness. It's quite large and deep, many believe that in it dwells the great monster. Its name is «Nessie», is described as a long black or a green dinosaur, however, for others it's just fiction.

Mountains and lakes

• Scotland is full of mountains and lakes. The highest mountain is Ben Nevis, with its height of 1344 m.
• There are a lot of rivers. The sea cuts the mountains into parts.

  Culture

• Culture of Scots goes back to ancient times, they have their own traditions. In their national day, the Scots still wear kilts( national men's clothing).National instrument-bagpipes.

Churches

• A long time ago the Scots built many large churches beside the river. These churches were called Abbeys.

Cultural life

• Glasgow has a busy cultural life. A lot of musicians, actors and singers come to Glasgow to give concerts.

• In the evenings the opera house, the cinemas and the concert halls are full. In cafes and pubs small groups sing, act, read poetry.

Scotland

• Some people go to Scotland by plane. Some people go there by ship. There are trains and buses to Glasgow and Edinburgh from London every day.
