The first American man in space Alan   Shepard   was   the   first  American  to  fly  in   space and the second man in space after Yuri Gagarin of the USSR. The mission lasted just 15 minutes 22 seconds, and Alan Shepard was the only person on the flight. Mercury-Redstone 3, also known as Freedom 7, was launched by NASA on May 5, 1961.

The first man on the moon   Neil   Armstrong  was  the   first   man   to   walk   on   the   Moon .    He travelled there  on the  Apollo 11 spaceship on 20th July 1969. Neil Armstrong stuck an American Flag into the moon's surface, he said: «That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind», he collected lunar samples, and he described the moon's surface.
