Tower of London

The Tower of London has become a symbol not only of London, but of the whole of Great Britain. It occupies a special place in British history, which is why the Tower is now one of the most visited architectural and historical landmarks in the world.

In essence, the Tower is a fortress. It stands on the north bank of the Thames and is one of the oldest buildings in England and the historic center of London. The history of this fortress is colorful: initially it was built as a defensive castle, and then it served as a zoo, and a mint, and an arsenal, and a prison, and an observatory, and a repository of royal jewels. Now it is a museum.

Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle - the family home of the Queen of Great Britain - is open to tourists. The truth is not all, but what is available for inspection boggles the imagination. The largest castle in Europe has been owned by the country's rulers for 900 years, no wonder that a huge number of historical artifacts and works of art have accumulated in it. The interiors are gorgeous and the ambiance is imbued with true British grandeur.

Every day at 11:00, a changing of the guard ceremony begins with the participation of the orchestra and guards in red uniforms and with bear hats on their heads.

Rochester Castle

Rochester Castle is located in Kent, in the south-east of England. Despite the fact that it was rebuilt several times, the majestic medieval castle retained its appearance, obtained in the 12th century, and is an excellent example of Norman architecture in the UK. Overlooking Rochester Castle, the massive keep is considered one of England's best-preserved medieval monuments. The initial purpose is strategic and defensive. It was also used as an apartment. The high and thick walls have withstood many attacks. There were ditches, which were filled up with the loss of need.

Leeds Castle

Leeds Castle is located just an hour's drive from London - in Kent. The stone palace with more than a thousand years of history hospitably welcomes tourists from all over the world and, in addition to standard excursions, offers travelers a whole range of entertainment: from golf to falconry. It was erected in the distant 11th century by a Norman baron. After 150 years, the palace (although in architecture it looks more like a stone fortress) came into the possession of the English rulers. For many centuries, Leeds Castle remained a royal residence, but at the beginning of the 20th century it passed, so to speak, into private hands.

Warwick Castle

Warwick castle located in Warwickshire. Founded in 1068. Initially it was a fortification fortress, in the 17th century it was converted into a country estate. It underwent a special restructuring during the Hundred Years War, becoming even more defensive. The attraction of the castle is the world's largest mechanical siege mechanism - the trebuchet. The halls store the attributes of past eras. The courtyard with a lawn is used for walking.

Bodiam Castle

Bodiam Castle located in East Sussex. Founded in 1385. Several noble families in turn lived in the castle. It was originally built as a defensive form of a fort from the raids of the French. It is separated from the land by a large moat. A drawbridge is thrown across it. The building has features characteristic of its time: a square shape, round towers at the corners, sandstone as a material for the walls.

Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle located in Northumberland County. Founded in the 11th century. Changed owners and participated in the collection of troops during the campaign against the Scotsman. Belonged to the crown, but went to the local duke, who was able to restore Alnwik and give it a new look. From early spring to mid-autumn it is open to visitors. Often appears in films, and not only in historical ones.

Beeston Castle

Beeston Castle located in the county of Cheshire. Built in the 20s of the XIII century. Consists of two conventional parts. The courtyard sits on top of a sandstone cliff and is virtually impregnable thanks to its walls. The outer courtyard is much lower on the slope, it is more open and served as a garrison station during hostilities. According to legend, there are hidden treasures of Richard II, which were never found.

Herstmonceux Castle

Herstmonceux Castle located in East Sussex. Built in 1441. Stylized for the buildings of an earlier period. It was the largest private property in England of its time. In the second half of the 18th century, it was destroyed: only the walls and the gatehouse remained. Has gone through a major refurbishment. Now there is a training center inside, where trade and humanities are taught. The castle hosts a medieval festival in August.
