A device vise
S implified design of the vise consists of two jaws and a locking mechanism with a handle designed for tight clamping of parts during processing. One sponge is fixed because it is attached to a static body or vise frame and the other supports sliding movement. By rotating the screw in a clockwise direction the movable jaw is shifted to the frame, which occurs due to fixation of the part. When rotating anticlockwise, the handle moves the sliding sponge away from the fixed clamp and opens the gap between them. Rigid fixation helps when sawing, drilling or other machining of the clamped parts.
Types of Vice
T he main types of vise-locksmith, machine, carpentry and manual.
Bench vise
Machine vise
Joiner's vise
Hand vise
Pluses of locksmith Vice

S ponges are most often hardened, which gives them additional durability. A nvils present in most models are resistant to mechanical damage. M odels with rotary mechanism support up to 360°reversal. Weight and dimensions are often small.
The advantages of machine Vice I ncreased clamping force ensures fit for fixing large metal parts. H igh-strength body can withstand severe mechanical stress. M ost often, a protective coating is provided to counteract corrosion of the housing. S uitable for works of high accuracy. T here is no backlash-fixing blanks rigid.
Pluses of joiner's Vice S uitable for work with blanks made of soft materials. F ixing sponges at the same level with the surface of the workbench allows you to handle large parts in a single plane. T he increased course of the solution of the jaws. A vailable in a wide choice of mounting systems, the model without frame suitable for clamping directly on the finished structure, do not require prior disassembly.
The advantages of manual clutches S upport simple disassembly for the purpose of auditing. Do not require fasteners and organization of the workspace. T he backlash in the joints is minimal, and often non-existent. S uitable for small precise works. T he handle is often covered with Santoprene, so the tool does not slip out of the hands when working. I t is possible to clamp flat parts with extended contact area. T he most common material of manufacture is carbon steel. T he only type of vise suitable for fast and correct work with mounted aluminum profile, metal.
Minuses of locksmith vise M ost often have backlash. R equires leveling sponges, which is not always possible without the use of a professional tool. R apid wear of lock washers involves their regular replacement. L engthy details are difficult to clamp across jaw.
Cons of machine tool vise F ocused on the lifting of parts due to the distortion of the sponge vertically, so uneven laying on the workpiece remains traces of Vice. F or leveling the swash at the base of the movable jaw have to slip the foil or use a vise, grasping the details of only the top edge.
Minuses of joiner's Vice N ot suitable for machining parts with increased rigidity. O ften applicable only as handy household tool. M odels of workbenches unpopular due to the reduced stiffness of the grip. V ariations with workbenches often go in extended configuration, demanding space and lighting.
Cons of manual vise S mall width and the run of the jaws does not allow to handle large items. T he correct clamp is provided only for soft metals, but the teeth, which are equipped with most hand models, leave dents on it. N ot suitable for use at an angle without any additional devices. I t is not possible to clamp the dimensional part in the desired position.
