Winston Churchill was born on November 30, 1874 in Blenheim Palace, the ancestral estate of the Dukes of Marlborough. Churchill's father is Lord Randolph Henry Spencer Churchill, the third son of the 7th Duke of Marlborough. Mother — Lady Randolph Churchill was the daughter of a wealthy American businessman.

No one who knew Winston in his childhood and youth could have guessed what place he would take

in the history of Great Britain. Since childhood, he

has shown extraordinary stubbornness and self-confidence. At school, Winston studied poorly, studying only those subjects that were interesting to him.

In 1896-1998 Churchill served in India, participated in the suppression of the uprising on its north-western border. He participated in military operations against Sudan, which ended with the capture of this country by British troops. During the Boer War (1899-1902) he was a war correspondent in South Africa. He left the military service for a political career.

1899 was the year of the beginning of Winston Churchill's career as a politician. Churchill served England the way everyone should serve their country - with intelligence, with a trembling passion for national history and at the same time with cold calculation.

In 1900, he was elected to Parliament from the Conservative party. In 1904, for career reasons, he joined the Liberal Party. Churchill held various posts. He was Minister of Commerce, Minister of the Interior,Minister of the Navy, Minister of Military Supplies and Aviation.

After Britain's entry into World War II, Churchill was appointed Naval Minister in the government of N. Chamberlain. In May 1940, after the resignation of N. Chamberlain, Churchill became Prime minister of the coalition government.

Despite his dislike of the Soviet Union, Churchill understood that without a military alliance with the USSR, Great Britain would not be able to avoid defeat in the war, and on June 22, 1941, after the German attack on the USSR, he declared support for the struggle of the Soviet people. The Churchill government signed an agreement with the USSR on joint actions against nazi Germany.

Churchill retired from active political activity in 1955. In recent years, he has been constantly ill and resigned from the post of prime minister with all the honors due to him. The Queen offered him the title of duke, but Churchill did not agree, as this meant his transfer to the House of Lords, and he considered his House of Commons, which he led for many years.

Winston Churchill had two main passions in his life - politics and literature, and in both areas he managed to achieve impressive results. He always stubbornly went to the goal, refuting with all his activities the generic motto "Faithful, but unsuccessful". His literary activity was crowned with the Nobel Prize in 1953.

Winston Churchill spent the last 10 years of his life at his Chartwell estate. He died on January 24, 1965 from a brain hemorrhage at the age of 90.
