Biography Facts of H.Wells
Herbert George Wells was born at Atlas House, 46 High Street, Bromley, in Kent, on 21 September 1866. He was the fourth and last child of Joseph Wells and his wife, Sarah Neal. The family was poor, but they inherited some money which allowed them to buy a china shop.

- In 1877 his father injured his leg, so he sent his sons out to work. Wells worked as an apprentice in a fabric store, but he did not enjoy his work.
- In 1883 he left the fabric store and became an assistant teacher at Midhurst Grammar School. He won a scholarship to the Normal School of Science in London.
- Wells was not happy with the way society treated people differently. He dreamed of a world where all people were equal and expressed this desire through his works.
The Time Machine
- The Time Machine was written in 1895. The author describes a fantastic machine made of nickel, ivory and crystal and with great artistic mastery depicts the flight through time when days and nights seem like the flapping of a black wing and the sun and the moon become streaks of fire in the sky
- The principal idea of the book is the contrast of the two degenerated races - the Eloi and the Morlocks into which mankind has been divided. Having reached the year 802701, the Time Traveler meets the Eloi - beautiful and graceful, but utterly helpless creatures who live in dilapidated buildings surrounded by neglected gardens.
- The other race, the horrible and pale Morlocks, who live in the underground caverns resemble animals.
The Invisible Man
The story "The Invisible Man“(1897) is about a scientist who finds away to turn things invisible. At the beginning of the book, he has already turned himself invisible and wears bandages over his face and body just so he can be seen. No one can see a single piece of his skin.
Then, he is forced to take drastic actions because the people of the small town are starting to wonder what is wrong with him. It all really starts when the wife of the man who owns the hotel follows The Invisible Man outside one night and he disappears. She does not know that he is invisible. This leads to the rest of the town starting to become curious.
The Invisible Man does not want to reveal his secret. Instead, he starts running from the people. He ends up stealing from an official who then finds out he is invisible. This leads to uproar in the town. The official and another man try to fight the Invisible Man but it does no good because he just takes off his bandages and becomes invisible again.
The War of the Worlds
- The War of the Worlds is a science-fiction novel written by H.G.Wells in 1898. It describes an invasion of England by aliens from Mars.
Today, he is sometimes referred to as «The father of science fiction»
H.WElls in Russia
- Wells made three visits to Russia.
- The first, accompanied by Maurice Baring, was in 1914, just before the outbreak of war, to see his old friend Maxim Gorky. He had first met him in 1906 on a trip to the United States.

- The second visit of the Soviet Union was in 1920 where he met with Lenin.
- “ Russia in the Shadows” is the title of the book by H.G. Wells published early in 1921. Wells portrayed Russia as recovering from a total social collapse.
- The third visit was 23rd of July 1934 when he met with I.V.Stalin.
