Australia is a small continent and a big country.
It's sunny and hot, with fantastic nature.
It's called The Upside Down World.
Winter comes in July.
Summer begins
in December.
The Head of State
The Head of State is the Queen of England.
But they say «Queen of Australia» about her.
National Symbols
Australian flag has got the British flag in the left corner. In the right corner there are white stripes. It looks lovely!
The Red Kangaroo and Emu are the unofficial animal emblems of the nation.
Nature
A big part of Australia is a desert. There are also parts of the country that get just a little rain.
Not many people live there. There are many cities near the sea.
Capital
Canberra is the capital of Australia. It is a green city, it's also called «bush city».
Sydney
Sydney is the biggest
and oldest city in Australia. It is a beautiful city by the sea .
The Sydney Opera House looks strange, but great. There is a music hall, an opera and a drama theatre in the building. It's a symbol of Sydney and Australia.

Animals
Australia's best-known animals are koalas and kangaroos. There are 50 species of kangaroo. Some of them are tall as a man, some are small as a cat.

There are 23 m illion people in Australia. Who lives in Australia? Native people and white Australians. Natives were the first people, then white people came from Europe.

There are many farms in Australia. There are more sheep than people in Australia. Farms are very big. People have to watch their animals and they do it from planes.
