Torture Chamber Iron Maiden and fire Torture instruments The grille in the floor is the entrance to a pit , where prisoners were thrown Chillingham Castle was a typical medieval English castle near the Scottish borders and had all time the enemies. That’s why there was a large Torture Chamber. Nowadays you can see here interesting and gruesome implements of punishment, such as a stretching rack, a gibbet cage, a nailed barrel and a spiked chair. Chillingham Castle was a typical medieval English castle near the Scottish borders and had all time the enemies. That’s why there was a large Torture Chamber.

Nowadays you can see here interesting and gruesome implements of punishment, such as a stretching rack, a gibbet cage, a nailed barrel and a spiked chair. You can even imagine hearing horrible moans and shouts of the prisoners

Visiting time

You may visit Chillingham Castle from Easter until the 30 th September at 13.00 - 17.00 every day except Saturday.

Guided tours of the Castle can usually be arranged all year round.  A minimum group of 4 is required.  During the open season (Easter to October) tours are scheduled for the morning.  

You can go fishing or boating on the lake
