Chillingham Castle was a typical medieval English castle near the Scottish borders and had all time the enemies. That’s why there was a large Torture Chamber.
Nowadays you can see here interesting and gruesome implements of punishment, such as a stretching rack, a gibbet cage, a nailed barrel and a spiked chair. You can even imagine hearing horrible moans and shouts of the prisoners

After restoration the tourists can feel an atmosphere of the medieval castle and visit different rooms: Armoury , Still Room, Dungeon, Torture Chamber, Berthele Room, the Minstrel's Hall, the Chapel , the Museum, the New Dining Room, the Plaque Room , King Edward I Room, King James I Room, the Garden Look Out and Great Hall.
A wide diversity of styles in the rooms spells out successive fashions through the early centuries, which gives an educative and vibrant difference to this ancient Castle

You may visit Chillingham Castle from Easter until the 30 th September at 13.00 - 17.00 every day except Saturday.

Guided tours of the Castle can usually be arranged all year round. A minimum group of 4 is required. During the open season (Easter to October) tours are scheduled for the morning.
