Born on May 24, 1905, on the Kruzhilin farm of the village of Vyoshenskaya oblast, the Don Cossacks (now the Vyoshensky District of the Rostov Oblast) in a peasant family. Participated in the Civil War, served in the detachment. At the end of 1922 he arrived in Moscow. In 1923, Sholokhov's stories began to appear in magazines and newspapers, subsequently combined into the collections Don Stories and Azure Steppe (both of 1926). The main theme of these works is the civil war in the Don.

From 1932 to 1960, Sholokhov created
  • From 1932 to 1960, Sholokhov created "Raised Virgin Land" - an epic narrative about a radical change in the life of the village, accomplished by collectivization. The novel brought the author the Lenin Prize (1960). During the Great Patriotic War, Sholokhov’s essays "On the Don", "In the South", "Cossacks" are published in periodicals and individual publications.
  • The story “The Science of Hate” (1942) was widely known. In 1943-1944. chapters from the unfinished novel “They Fought for the Motherland” were printed about the heroism of the people in the Great Patriotic War.
  • A notable phenomenon was the story "The Fate of Man" (1956-1957).
In 1965, Sholokhov was awarded the Nobel Prize. He died on February 21, 1984 at home, in the village of Vyoshenskaya.
