Introduction.

• Goal:

To create a booklet which will introduce you to the traditions of the English tea party.

• Tasks:

To tell the story of tea in England.

To tell a few rules of etiquette of the tea party.

• Relevance:

Our work is relevant because it introduces the history of the tea in England and with some traditions of tea drinking. We think that everyone will be interested to learn about the English tea party.

What is tea?

• Tea is an aromatic beverage commonly prepared by pouring hot or boiling water over the cured leaves. After water, it is the most widely consumed drink in the world.

History of tea in England.

In 1662 the British King Charles II married the Portuguese princess Catherine. She was an enthusiastic admirer of tea. In 1664, the merchants of the East India Company presented a gift to King Charles the Second, two pounds of dry "Chinese Paper“.The British appreciated its tart taste, pleasant aromat and universal healing properties. England, being the owner of the largest colonies around the world, faced with alcoholism – the water was not safe to drink, and alcohol became an excellent antiseptic. So often poor and even small children were forced to drink beer, port wine or gin. The desire to have sober working population was so strong that the British authority began to apply propaganda of sober lifestyle offering to replace the drink of tea.

It is known visits begin with invitations.

Small postcards are used for invitations to official events with tea. The invitation to tea accepts the phrase "be home", which determines the location of the event. Furthermore, in this invitation starting and ending time of the event is indicated .It is clear that guests can come at the convenient time. It is a tradition that in the European houses tea is served up by women.

Tableware.

Tea table is usually located in the living room by the fireplace.The table is covered with a white tablecloth (it can be light beige or blue). A tea cup and a saucer, a small kettle with tea kettles or a large pot of boiling water, a tea strainer, a milk jug,a sugar bowl ,a plate with slices of lemon are on the table. Tea Set should be white. To create the mood it is not forbidden a bouquet of flowers in the vase. The vase and flowers should be chosen to be in harmony with the set.

Preparation of tea.

Brewing tea can be done only once because tea loses its flavor quickly. Before using the tea should be brewed for 3-5 minutes. In order to make tea better and tasty you should use a teacosy. While the tea is brewed, you should serve milk, sugar ,a lemon, warmed sandwiches with ham and a kettle of boiling water on the table. For dessert pastries you can offer things, but not too sweet, so you can feel the taste of the drink. For example it is oatmeal cookies, fruit baskets. .

Etiquette.

Correctly handling of tea is special ability. The cup is held with three fingers of a right hand:a thumb,an index-finger and a middle finger. The upper part of the handle is held between a thumb and a forefinger, middle bottom handle support. The fourth and a little finger are pressed against the middle of the palm.

When the tea is drunk at the dinner table, the cup is lifted, leaving a saucer on the table.

If the guests are sitting in the couch or in the chairs, a cup of tea is held at the chest level.

When we drink tea with a lemon, you put the lemon and then sugar. Before putting a lemon into the cup, it is rotated so that the handle must be on the left. The lemon slices are gently squeezed into the juice with a tea spoon, while you hold the cup with left hand. Then lemon must be removed from the cup and place it on the saucer. The cup is turned again by the handle to the right.

Sugar is poured by a spoon without touching the tea. You use forceps for refined tea. Stir the sugar, a teaspoon is taken out and put into a special tray.

If you drink the milk tea, first pour milk into the cup and then add tea.

You can talk drinking tea. Long silence hampers, so you can talk to maintain the conversation! Young people should take up the conversation with women. Referring to the ladies, in some case, do not underestimate the intellectual level of the conversation.

If there is a young man, the girl should be natural during the conversation, not to giggle, and not to be smug. In an interview she could not use the knowledge of world events. She can passionate about home environment, her favourite animals and sports. This girl will be delightful in the company, if it will not be long.

Сonclusion.

This etiquette is the linchpin of the English tea tradition. Like many English traditions, tea etiquette seems to be very strict and stiff. In fact, of all the restrictions and regulations are the pursuit of perfection. Its simple rules are clear, to see if they show respect to the companion, colleague, business partners. Respect for the individual, raised to the principle and the pursuit of perfect quality - that's what distinguishes the English from other nations.
