Project Plan

“Audiobooks for studying”

Teachers: Lyxova Alexandra, Osokina Tamara

Grade: 7 (8?)

Level: (Pre-)intermediate

Essential question: Will listening of authentic audiobooks improve the speaking skills?

Aims:

  1. to improve student’s speaking, listening, reading, writing skills

  2. to develop student’s 21st century skills (critical thinking, collaboration, creativity)

  3. to create a short film

Objectives:

  1. to familiarize students with the audiobook

  2. to provide activities which are based on the text of the book and aimed at development of students’ language skills (especially speaking skills)

  3. to find out if listening of authentic audiobooks will improve the speaking skills

1) Familiarization students with audiobooks - what are they and how to find and use them, what are their advantages for development speaking skills.

2) Familiarization of students with the research problem (EQ) and aims of the project.

3) Familiarization of students with the chosen audiobooks (watching a short video about it’s characters and plot)

4) A short discussion of the video (students may talk about their opinions and make some predictions)

5) Creating groups of three or four people.

6) Creating a plan of work and timeline.

Pre-listening activity – a short discussion of the listened chapter.

Questions:

  1. What is the chapter about?

  2. Who are the main characters?

  3. What is the place where actions are happened?

Listening practice - listening of passage of the first chapter with missed words. Checking of how much words students have written correctly.

Students read the chapter and distinguish the main idea of the text.

Creating a short essay (or mind-map, banner, brochure) about one of the characters of the book to present this character to other groups.

Students discuss questions, which are based on the content of the chapter.

Presenting of the results

Students present their short films which were shot by each group. The film should be based on the scene from the book which the students liked the most. It should be the staging of the particular episode.

Peer-assessment – students discuss results of the work.
