Today we will continue work with the theme “Famous people”. We will speak about famous people and their works.

New theme

1. Read the text about English writers.

Great Britain has many famous people in literature of the world.

William Shakespeare is one of the most famous writers in the world. His plays “Romeo and Juliet”, “Hamlet, Prince of Denmark”, “King Lear”, “Macbeth” were translated into almost every language.

Daniel Defoe- An English writer, whose most famous novels are Robinson Crusoe and Moll Flanders.

Robert Burns - a Scottish poet who wrote hundred of songs and poems, mainly on country life, love, and national pride.

Walter Scott- a Scottish writer and a poet, especially famous for his stories of Scottish life, several of them are based on historical characters, such as Ivanhoe and The Heart of Midlothian

Charles Dickens-an English novelist. His many famous books describe life in Victorian England and show how hard it was, especially for the poor and for children. They include: Oliver Twist, David Copperfield .

Lewis Carroll -an English writer who wrote two well-known children’s stories, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. His real name was Charles Ludwig Dodgson.
