The Case of the Missing Monkey

A funny detective story
Level A1 – A2

In a small town there is a nice zoo. A lot of animals live there: big lions, green crocodiles, friendly elephants, funny monkeys and many others. One monkey called Tricky is very naughty. She likes to make funny faces and swing from the trees. Her favourite food is bananas.

One morning the zookeeper comes to the zoo and finds Tricky’s cage empty. He calls two best detectives and asks them for help.

Detective Who and Detective Why go to the zoo. They see a big cage. The door is open.

«Look!» says Detective Who. He sees a banana peel. «Tricky likes bananas! It’s a clue!»
Detective Why shouts: «Oh, one more peel is over there! Let’s follow the peels!»

They walk around the zoo. They see a tall man near the ice cream stand. He is holding a big bag with a banana peel on it.

«Stop!» the detectives shout. «What is there in your bag?»

« There are some bananas from the supermarket, » answers the man. He opens the bag and sees Tricky. She is sleeping. There are no bananas …

«Where are my bananas?! » the man shouts. Tricky wakes up and jumps up a tree.

The man is angry. The zoo keeper is happy. Tricky is home.

«Good job, Detectives!» he says.

Tricky makes funny faces and swings from the tree. The man laughs.

Detective Who and Detective Why laugh too.
