My Favourite Writer Lewis Carroll (1832-1898)
Lewis Carroll was the pen-name of Charles Dodgson , the man who wrote the book “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” .
It is one of the most famous and popular books for children.
Charles Dodgson was a tutor of mathematics at University of Oxford . He was born in England in 1832. He got his early education at an English public school. Then he became a student at Christ Church College at Oxford. Charles Dodgson studied mathematics and later taught the same subject in the same college.
Charles Dodgson was a bachelor - he had no family, but he loved children very much. He often visited his friend Henry George Liddell who had a large family. He had four children: Henry, Lorena, Alice and Edith . Dodgson was fond of Alice very much and he often told her interesting stories which he made himself.
One day during a boating trip Charles Dodgson told the Liddell children the adventures of a little girl in Wonderland.
When they returned home Charles Dodgson wrote down the story that he had told the children. He called the main character of his story Alice.
Charles Dodgson wasn’t a professional writer he made up his mind to publish the book under his pen-name of Lewis Carroll.
The book came out in 1865 and everybody who read it enjoyed it greatly.
Later the book was published in the United States of America, in France, in Germany, in Russia. This book is still popular all over the world. It is one of the most favourite books for children in many countries.
My Favourite Book “ Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”
The book starts off with a young girl, Alice, who falls into the hole following the Rabbit.
As the story goes on Alice is constantly growing and shrieking in size and meeting such strange characters as the Mad Hatter, The White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat and many other characters.
Alice is an intelligent, curious, strange and confused character.
As Alice wonders along she meets a caterpillar who asks her who she is.
The Mad Hatter
Reading this book gave me great pleasure and impact. While reading the novel I imagined myself at her place. I felt myself in this fantasy world, went through the steps Alice passed and enjoyed this beautiful fantasy world.
