We go back to our camp. The weather is cold and windy.

7 February 1912

The sledges don’t work. The ponies can’t walk in deep snow.

13 February 1912

We must kill ponies because we have little food for them.

20 February 1912

The weather is particularly bad. I hate snow and this extreme cold!

21 February 1912

It is a horrible day! A strong headwind is blowing now. It seems a pity, but I don’t think I can write more.

3 March 1912

I feel snow blindness in my right eye. We have food only for 9 days.

7 March 1912

My leg is very bad. I am afraid of gangrene. I have no opportunity to treat it. Amputation is the best way.

15 March 1912

We are weak, cold and hungry. We have food for 4 days.

20 March 1912

Our death is close by, but we are Englishmen! We will die as gentlemen.

We were not the first at the South Pole, but in the hearts of people all over the world we did a more important thing.

the Antarctic PS Last month I read an interesting book «1000 deaths» by Lavrin.

I learned many interesting things about Robert Scott.

There is a simple wooden cross in the Antarctic .People put it there in the memory of the brave Englishmen. «To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield» says the inscription on the cross.
