INTRODUCTION
Nowadays it is quite impossible to live without computers and computer games. The computer is one of the modern learning tools that have unique capabilities. Children are introduced to the computer from an early age. Almost each of them plays computer games. They are very popular in the world especially among teenagers.
I chose this research topic because I was interested in how computer games affect the study of English, which genres of computer games are more important for this.
I think that the topic of the research work is relevant, because computer games became a natural part of life of modern children.
The aim of the researchis to find out the features of the impact of computer games on the process of learning English.
The tasks :
-to get general information about computer games;
-to analyze the influence of computer games on the process of learning English;
-to interview the pupils of the 7th-8th forms of our school;
-to describe the results of our research;
-to make an English-Russian dictionary of computer games.
The object of the research: computer games.
The subject of the research: the efficiency of computer games in studying English.
Methods of the research:
Experimental
Questionnaires
Comparison
Analysis
The hypothesis is as following: computer games have a positive effect on learning English, expand the vocabulary of players, improves the perception of speech by ear and arose interest in its study.
1.ТHEORETICAL PART OF THE RESEARCH
Genres of computer gamess are a good example of how long a p
All computer games are divided into different genres:
Hidden Object Games You are given a task, to complete it you visit various locations where you need to find certain items. You will need to match images with words in English, which you will gradually memorize.
For example: Nancy Drew, Sherlock Holmes.
RPG (Role-Playing Games) The player controls a character with certain characteristics, performs various tasks, gradually improving his skills. There is quite a lot of text in such games, in some cases it is also voiced by native speakers.
For example: a series of games The Witcher, Fallout, Dragon Age, The Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect.
MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online). MMO games are role-playing games in which a large number of players take part. The game involves players from all over the world, so you will have a chance to chat with native speakers.
For example: WOW (World of Warcraft), Guild Wars 2, Elder Scrolls Online, EVE, Star Wars: The Old Republic
Interactive games. This type of games consists of hero dialogues and Quick Time Events, in which you need to perform some action very quickly. There are a lot of dialogues in such games, from which you can learn interesting words and phrases.
For example: Until Dawn, Life is Strange, Beyond: Two Souls, Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, other games on TV series from Telltale.
Action. Action is not such a useful game for learning English, since the emphasis is still on actions, not words. However, you will listen to the dialogues in English in the game.And if it is difficult for you to perceive speech by ear, subtitles will help you with this.
For example: GTA series of games, Assassin's Creed, Tomb Raider, Uncharted, Detroit become human.
his attention on one task.
1.2. Analysis of the content of English speech in computer games
After analyzing the content of English speech in computer games, we can say that it is the MMO genre that is the most useful tool for learning English.
It is this type of games that compels, encourages, and encourages you to actively replenish your vocabulary, learn grammar and vocabulary, because communication with other players is the key to success in the genre of these games.
From personal experience, I note that if you play the same World of Warcraft with foreign players (and the game also has a lot of dialogues, tasks, and all this in English), without knowing the language at a certain level, it means you will not advance a step. Poor interaction with "teammates", misunderstanding of semantic expressions, commands, tasks, will simply lead to a loss
Also, players often communicate using a microphone through such popular programs as Skype, TeamSpeak or Raidcall. The first program is probably familiar to each of you. But you are hearing about the remaining two for the first time, but among gamers these are very popular applications that also help to communicate. Unlike Skype, in TeamSpeak and Raidcall there is no way to see the interlocutor using a webcam, but they are popular among players because up to 100 or more people can talk in one "room" at the same time.
"How to learn without doing anything?" People want to have fun and develop at the same time! Alas, such a number does not pass here. We need work and diligence. The only thing that ordinary computer games can affect is the enrichment of vocabulary.. Moreover, computer games themselves are ineffective, but there is such an option as ONLINE games, and this is different. Just the situation with "World of Warcraft, Lineage, Eve, Aion" looks a little different. Here people do not play on their own, but with many other people, most of whom may be from the same England, America, Germany, Greece, etc. Social circles are expanding, and an ordinary player has the opportunity to communicate with other nations. Thus, a person surrounds himself with the right language environment in which he tries to formulate his speech and acquire knowledge from other players. In such games, people often need to unite in order for their game to be more effective. And this makes them contact as much as possible. We think this option of learning a foreign language can be considered as an additional one.
1.3. Advantages of computer games when learning English.
• Video games expand vocabulary. Any game is a source of new words. If you are interested in the plot, you will definitely look into the dictionary and find out the meaning of unfamiliar phrases encountered in the game. Gradually, your vocabulary will be replenished with new words and expressions.
• Games improve the perception of speech by ear. The speech of the heroes of computer games is voiced by native speakers, so during the game you will listen to them in the same way as it happens while listening to a podcast or watching a movie. Many games are subtitled, so it will be easier to understand the speech.
• Games make learning grammar easier. In the games, the characters speak live English, that is, you will meet grammar in a natural way, and not in exercises from a textbook. The construction of phrases will be remembered, of course.
• Games immerse you in a language environment. Everyone knows that creating a language environment is an effective method of learning English. Start playing, and you will not notice how you will spend a couple of hours in the company of the English language. In addition, interest in the games will motivate you to read news about them, watch videos, championships in English. These materials will also help you improve your knowledge.
• Games increase motivation. The games are so "addictive" that there is a constant motivation to learn new words, to parse the phrases of the characters in order to move on. Sometimes we all get tired of doing exercises similar to each other, reading texts from a textbook, etc. In this case, it's worth switching to games and having a little rest. You will combine business with pleasure and stop tormenting yourself with the thought that you spent the whole evening at the computer again.
• Games improve memory, attention, thinking. When learning a foreign language, it is important to have a good memory, because you need to memorize new words, grammatical constructions, etc. At the same time, you need to be careful not to make mistakes and be able to formulate your thoughts. Almost any game develops attention, memory, thinking, that is, improves the abilities through which you learn a new language for yourself.
2. PRACTICAL PART OF THE RESEARCH
To understand which games my peers prefer to play, we conducted a survey. It was attended by 30 students of grades 7-8, which was conducted in the form of answers to questionnaire questions. After that, the analysis of the received information was carried out. The results are shown in graphs and tables.
Here's what the survey results showed:
1. Do you play computer games? Yes. No.

Then,only 24 students who play computer games took the survey.
2. How much time do you spend playing computer games?
Of the 24 students surveyed:
a) 6 students – 20% spend an hour b) 11 students – 55%-from 1 to 3 hours:
c) 7 students – 25%-more than 3 hours

Research results
Based on the survey results, approximately 55% of my peers spend a reasonable amount of time playing games, and on average 20% of respondents have improved their vocabulary and listening comprehension of English.
Since 25% of my peers spend more than 3 hours at the computer, it is necessary to have a conversation with them about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, physical education and sports. And then the computer will turn into a friend and faithful assistant, which will help in learning English.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, we can say that with the help of computer games it is much easier, faster and more interesting to learn English, to develop memory, attention, imagination. In order to teach a child effectively, he needs to be carried away. This is the effect of modern computer games in English. Such games are becoming increasingly popular. It is very good if the game is voiced by native speakers, then the player, in addition to a large vocabulary, will also master the correct pronunciation.
Thus, we can conclude that the hypothesis I put forward has been confirmed that computer games have a positive effect on learning English, expand the vocabulary of players, improve the perception of speech by ear and arouse interest in its study.
