Editorial

Let us introduce our school magazine. We called it “All together” because many pupils of our school helped us and gave a great support in our work, we needed advice on a lot of things and our teacher of English was a “language doctor”, who made a note of any mistake to discuss it later and helped us to do our work better. We picked out some authors whose works are especially good for reading and thinking.

Here we are going to give you some interesting information about the place where we live, to represent some facts about our everyday life and free time activity.

We had a very special atmosphere of extra joy creating every section of our magazine. That was the first writing experience and we hope it will be interesting for readers.

Life here

(by Darya Zhmurova)

Everywhere in the world there are many wonderful and interesting places. I am going to tell you about my home village Alyokhino which is situated not far from town Cheremkhovo.

My village is rather small but very nice, tidy and cozy. People here are kind and friendly. There are a lot of gardens and playgrounds near the houses. We have a big stadium, a cinema, a kindergarten and a very beautiful park. The air is rather fresh here, much fresher than in other industrial cities. I enjoy green summers and snowy winters of my native village! We can be outdoors all days and find plenty to do and we won`t be bored!

Our school is one of the best in our district. Many talented and creative pupils study here. We work in our workshops and in our school garden, do physical exercises and what not! Senior pupils always help juniors in studies and in afterschool activities.

School humour:

  • Who knows English best of all in our group?

  • M-m… I think… our teacher.

Alyokhino is not far from Cheremkhovo – a town of miners. This is a beautiful town with modern buildings, shops, parks and squares.

By the way, do you know that Cheremkhovo is the native town of Vladimir Gurkin, a well-known writer and dramatist? Our local theater is named in his honor.

This is a monument of Vladimir Gurkin, Alexander Vampilov and Mikhail Varfolomeev. All of them were born in Cheremkhovo.

Here you can see a monument of the main characters of Gurkin`s famous play “Love and Doves”.

If you one day visit us, I am sure, you will like the place where we live! 3

Travelling is a joy forever!

(by Danis Faizulin)

I want to introduce myself. My name is Danis. I am very active, sociable and like to meet new people. May be for that reason travelling is my favorite free time activity. My family is fond of picnics because we can have a pleasant rest in the open air. We often visit our relatives who live on the farm near Arshan. Isn`t it nice to spend some weeks on a farm, to help in the work and to make friends with all the animals on the farm?

When you are in the fields or in the wood open your eyes and look around. You will find many things there to enjoy!

Last summer I spent two weeks in the international scout camp, near the Baikal. I was there with my classmates and teachers. It was a wonderful time! We hiked, swam, took part in different competitions.

There is nothing like climbing trees, running barefoot, cycling in the wind, camping, making a camp fire, boating, lying in the sun and playing interesting games!

Everybody was full of impressions! Besides, now I have a new pen friend. His name is Anthony, he is from Canada. Anthony can speak Russian very well because his mother is from Russia.

When I grow up I will be a traveler. I want to visit different countries, to see a lot of interesting and exotic places, to know about different peoples and nationalities, about their customs and traditions. 4

Our Favorite Festivals

(by V. Molokoedova, D. Alfyorova, N. Firsova)

All the children in the world enjoy festivals. We like to have fun, to give and get presents and feel happy. Here we are going to tell about the festivals we like most of all.

Valeria Molokoedova:

Everybody knows that the most favourite children`s festival is New Year celebration! Every year we have a New Year party in our school. During this party we dance and sing songs, read poems, wear beautiful clothes and fancy dresses, take part in different funny contests, perform short plays and have a lot of fun! Of course, Father Frost comes and brings a huge bag of sweet presents for us!

I like to celebrate Christmas too. This is a very joyful holiday full of mystery! My mother and I always cook a lot of tasty things on that day, my father makes a big snow figure near our house and when midnight comes we wear warm clothes, go outside and do fireworks. We invite our relatives, friends and neighbors, congratulate each other and wish all the best! 5

Darya Alfyorova:

In November a very wonderful holiday took place in our school. It was Mother`s Day. We invited a lot of guests, there were many different unusual contests. We made tasty things, guessed the riddles, sang popular songs, imagined pop stars and shown funny tricks. I did all my best to help my mother to win this competition. And we did it! My mother was the best!

My family always likes to celebrate Maslenitsa. When I was a child, I did not know what this holiday means, but I remember the good emotions I had. I like the symbols of Maslenitsa: pancakes, fires and “Straw scarecrow” burnt at the end of the Maslenitsa Week. Now I know that pancakes symbolize the image of sun and when we burn “Straw scarecrow” we say “good bye” to winter!

6

Natalya Firsova:

At the end of the school year we arrange a traditional festival which is called “Welcome to the Land of Fairy tales”. This is so interesting to act different fairy tales and to be the magic characters. Sometimes we create our own tales and musicals. Our parents, teachers and all the children like these performances and this makes us enjoy ourselves!

----------------------------------------INTERVIEW ----------------------------

Is it worth reading?

(by Darya Saraeva and Veronica Khodyreva)

It`s not a secret that nowadays reading is not so popular as it was many years ago. And we decided to know more about this problem. We made a poll among the pupils of our school and asked only two questions:

  • Do you like reading? Why?

  • What kinds of books do you prefer reading?

And we got the following answers.

Angelika Bogdanova, the 6th form:

  • I like reading very much! My mother taught me to read when I was only four. She says that a person who reads a lot makes few mistakes in spelling, because reading trains our memory, we can write words in a right way even if we don`t remember the grammatical rules. And I think my mother is absolutely right! I prefer reading different kinds of books, especially encyclopedias.

Roman Popov, the 5th form:

  • As for me, I like reading comics most of all, because they are very funny! But some days ago my parents bought me a book about dogs. I`ve read it from the beginning to end! It was so interesting for me to know about different kinds of dogs, about their characters and behavior… Now I want my parents to buy me a puppy. 8

Anna Nikiforova, the 4th form:

  • I like to read fairy tales very much. They are so kind and funny. Very often my mother asks me to read her something interesting and I do it with great pleasure. Books make us feel good!

Tatyana Galitskaya, the 6th form:

  • I think reading is very important because books can tell us a lot about different things. They educate us. I prefer reading about lives of famous people, about fashion and art. When I read I can relax and feel comfortable.

Artyom Bashkirtsev, the 6th form:

- I am going to study computers and prefer reading technical literature. I start reading something else when I have to prepare for my classes. But reference books and the Internet are my best friends!

Victoria Suprunova, the 11th form:

  • They say “Choose a book as you choose a friend”. I am sure that books are our best friends. They teach us, entertain us. Besides books are very easy to access at any time. We can travel with books all round the world without wasting money. Very often books can help us to choose our future professions. I am going to be a journalist and generally I read periodicals.

Ivan Lazutchenko, the 9th form:

  • People often say they have not enough time for reading. I cannot believe it! I know where there is a will there is a way! We must read more because reading makes us think. Books teach how to solve different problems, give us necessary information. Of course, it is easier to watch TV or video, but it cannot replace reading. As for me, I prefer reading classical novels and historical books.

Anastasiya Vasilyeva, the 7th form:

  • A person who wants to be successful should read more. Reading makes our speech richer and more vivid. We acquire knowledge and some life experience from the books. The more we read the more we learn. I enjoy reading poetry, sometimes I read adventure and mystery books. It helps me not to be alone.

9

Alyona Mikhailova, the 9th form:

  • We must form a reading habit early in life. Literature means much in my life. I usually borrow books from the library, but I have a lot of them at home too. Books help me to form the character, to understand life better. I like to read books about the history of our country, about famous people.

In conclusion, we want to say that this interview shows that reading is necessary, it helps people in self-education and in solving different problems.
